About the Author-

Writing is something I have always done. I can remember in elementary school creating stories that I would stand up and read aloud to my classmates… whether they liked it or not. As I grew older I didn’t flaunt my writing as freely. It became something I did just for me to vent my teenage angst, or chronicle my journey to adulthood. I never thought about becoming a writer because that title prompted the visual of a grey-haired man in a tweed smoking jacket with suede elbow patches, slaving over an old fashion typewriter while puffing away on a pipe. No way was that stuffy kind of life for me. (Plus tweed is itchy.) Instead I wanted to be in the spotlight! I wanted to be–pause for dramatic effect–an actress! I gave it my best shot, too. Got about as far as any aspiring actress can get in Flint, Michigan. Which is exactly no where. But I did get two great things out of my time delving into the theatrical world; I gained the ability to act out the scenes I write to make sure they’re believable (yes, I really do that and no, you can’t watch) and I met my amazing husband.



My theater ambitions behind me, I decided to do the “mature,” “grown up” thing and went back to college. As I worked toward my Bachelor’s degree in marketing I did a lot of writing. Essays, research papers, PowerPoint presentations. All of it mandatory, none of it what I would ever call fun. Even then, becoming a writer never entered my mind. No, then I was going to be a business tycoon… or somethin’. Truth be told, I never picked writing. It picked me. During my time as a stay at home mom I needed an outlet to give me a mental break from diapers, formula and midnight feedings. That’s when my hands found their way back to the keyboard. Story ideas began coming at such an incessant rate that my rapidly clicking fingers couldn’t keep up. Post-It notes and scrapes of paper with story ideas decorated every inch of our house. In mid-conversation with my husband I would dart off to jot down things that would come to me. Sweet guy my hubby is, he would just shake his head at my obvious rudeness and hold my place in the conversation.



My first book was completed for an entire year before I told anyone about it. I outed myself as an author and then sent out my first round of query letters to literary agents. Surely, it would be picked up immediately and become an overnight success! Yeah, not so much. For two years I got rejection, after rejection, after rejection, after rejection…you get the idea. Thankfully with the ever increasing pile of rejections came feedback. I digested all the suggestions and applied the usable ones to my manuscript. Little by little, the rough edges were chipped away and the diamond shone through. The work paid off when I received an email from a publisher offering me a contract on The Conduit.



It’s been a long road, and it ain’t over yet. But now, at thirty-mumble, mumble years old I finally know what I wanna be when I grow up–-a writer.

Bernard banged his cane against the floor in six rapid-fire successions. His round face flushed red, then         . “Training time isn’t over!”

Caleb glanced over his shoulder at the glowering          . “What’s with the hostile envir’ment?”

“Oh you know, same old, same old. I don’t respect my              duty of pummeling inanimate objects, blah, blah, blah. Maybe Gabe will train with me to appease Mr. Sunshine.” I looked to my brother with a hopeful expectation.

Bernard folded his arms over his chest and scowled.

“Sorry, Cee,” Gabe raked a hand through his recently grown-out hair. He usually kept it buzzed, but Alaina insisted he grow it out for the wedding. He fiddled with the whole inch of it almost as much as Kendall did with hers. The two of them had daily scuffles over ‘mirror time’ in the bathroom. My low maintenance ponytail and I were very                    by this.

“I don’t need to train,” he said with a cocky smirk. “I’m a lion. It doesn’t get any more               than that.”

Gabe ignored my eye-roll and circled his hands around Alaina’s slender wrists to pull her into his waiting arms. She giggled and wrapped her arms around his neck.

“Couples suck,” Kendall grumbled and tossed the bridal magazine aside.

Against the far wall of the garage—flanked by Gram’s flamingo lawn ornaments—Bernard’s pinched up         face warned of an impending gnome-sized embolism.

Just as he opened his mouth to unleash what was sure to be a nasty verbal bashing, Caleb intervened, “I’ll spar with her.”

Bernard’s beady eyes narrowed. “I don’t know ... ”

“I think it’s a heck of a lot more effective than me fighting a bag.” I matched Bernard’s arm fold and raised him a                   sneer.

Bernard took a deep breath in through his nose, and let it out through pursed lips. “Fine. Do not hold back,” he barked at Caleb, then pointedly turned his glare to me, “at all.”

“Wouldn’t dream of it,” Caleb shot me a wink.

Gabe unchained the punching bag and leaned it against Grandpa’s dusty old work bench, then took a seat on the floor with Alaina and Kendall. Caleb and I faced off in the center of the garage. He yanked off his hooded sweatshirt and tossed it to his sister (That would be Alaina, by the way. Long story. He was abducted by a demonic army as a child and she joined the good guys as a Spirit Guide. Huh, look at that. I made a long story surprisingly short.)

He brought his hands up and struck a defensive pose. The thin material of his           t-shirt tightened across thethe                  muscles of his torso. That visual stimuli caused a wandering gaze that couldn’t be helped. With his knees slightly bent, his jeans hugged his thighs in a way that proved very distracting.

“Ahem ... I’m up here,            . Not that I don’t appreciate a good oglin’.”

I hurriedly assumed a fighting stance, my cheeks and ears                 bright red. “Sorry. I’m good. Let’s do it. This! Let’s do this!” Gabe, Alaina, and Kendall all snickered from the sidelines. “Crap. Let’s just get this over with.”

Caleb’s                         face folded in mock hurt. “Ya say it like that and I’m inclined tah think ya won’t enjoy it at all.”

“I think we both know that’s not true.” I grinned.

“Well then...” He jerked his head to the side to crack his neck and blinked hard. When his eyes opened the           was gone. In its place blazed            red irises. Visible red flames danced beneath the surface of his skin. “Give us a kiss.”

The Litter Box…Scoop Daily is lucky to be hosting the last tour stop before Stacey Rourke’s special post on her own blog. She decided to bring her friend with her. Yes, I know her characters are make believe but let’s all pretend she isn’t talking to herself in public okay ;-) Let’s all welcome Stacey and the awesome sidekick Kendall. (We all know sidekicks are the best part of any story, right? Without a good one or two, you are just another crazy person with super strength.) Now let’s get to it!

Stacey-Thank you all for being here! Today as my guest I have Kendall Garrett, one of the stars of The Gryphon Series. Kendall, thanks so much for joining us!
Kendall-(big beaming grin) Thank you for having me! This is so cool. I feel like I’m on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Stacey-Well our audience may be smaller but no less fun.
(Crowd hoots and applauds. Kendall gives them doe eyes over her shoulder—toothpaste commercial grin still in place.)
Stacey-(suddenly serious) But let’s get down to the real story here Kendall. According to The Gryphon Series you’re a creature of love that is practically incapable of being mean or nasty to anyone. Is that true?
Kendall-(blinking rapidly in obvious confusion) Uh…yeah. I thought we were gonna talk about stuff like who I want to play me in The Conduit movie, because I’m thinking Ashley Benson from Pretty Little Liars could totally rock playing me.
Stacey-(waves hand dismissively) Yeah, no one cares. What people really wanna know is how deep this “creature of love” thing goes. I mean are you able to get angry at people?
Kendall-(shrugs) Sure, I can get angry but then I remember pretty quick that all people are basically good inside and it passes.
Stacey-(leans back in her chair and folds her arms over her chest) That’s…annoyingly optimistic. So you never get so ticked off that you just fly off the handle at anyone?
Kendall-(With a smile so sweet it causes cavities) Nope. Not really.
Stacey-(Her eyes narrow) Even the fact that I openly refer to you and your brother as “sidekicks” in my new novella The Sidekick Chronicles? That doesn’t bug you at all?
Kendall-(Blonde hair bobs around her face as she shakes her head) Not at all. Gabe gets bent out of shape by that, but I’m happy to help our little team in any way I can. I don’t care what title I go by.
Stacey-(leans forward with her elbows on the desk.) Your boyfriend Keith breaks your heart in the novella. That didn’t make you want to unleash a little fury on him?
Kendall- (Presses lips together and considers this before again shaking her head.) Not really, we’re young. This is the time in our lives when we make silly mistakes that we learn from.
Stacey-What about when people cut you off in traffic?
Kendall-Clearly they have somewhere important to be! I just hope they arrive safely.
Stacey-The Kardashians are stupid.
Kendall-(sucks in a shocked breath then struggles to regain her composure) You are…ahem…entitled to your own opinion about that wonderful family.
(Audience erupts in a taunting “oooooooooooooo”)
Stacey-(with a victorious smile) So you can be rattled!
Kendall-Cannot!
Stacey-Can too!
Kendall-Cannot!
Stacey-I’m going to give you an awful hair day in Sacrifice, book 3 of the Gryphon Series.
Kendall-(gasps and hisses through her teeth)You witch! You wouldn’t dare!

Cover Reveal: Few Are Angels by Inger Iversen

One of our favorite books has gotten a cover revamp and I LOVE it. The original cover was great but this revamp is breath-taking. Last month whe had a guest post by the amazingly talented Inger Iversen so when I saw on facebook her new cover I knew I had to share it with you all. I hope you love it as much as I do.

It goes much better with book two's AMAZEBALLZ cover which is due out on my birthday (Feb 14th)...coincidence? I think not.

Not another Angel book, quickly turned into Yes, another Angel book!
I was expecting to be sucked in right away because normally books start with action that suck you in. This book did not, it didn't start with action and it didn't instantly suck me in but the characters were likeable so I was compelled to keep reading. Michelle and her best friend's school was like mine, invisibility was apparently my super power so I connected with them on that level. I struggled to read past the mundane set up but when chapter 2 came around and science class was mentioned (any YA reader worth her weight in gold knows that means hottie up a head. Twilight, hush hush...need I say more?) Enter dark curly haired, clear eyed Gabriel. Hell no. I'm never going to STOP reading this book now.

From the beginning I was already on the fence about Cami but it quickly turned into realization that I hated her. Michelle was more like me in H.S except she actually wanted a friend. I wasn't driven by that. LOL I started praying Chelle would get the guy and the rest of the school get sucked into the pit of hell. That's what this story is about right? No? Guess I better keep reading.

About midway through the book if someone had bothered to interrupt me I might have gone horseman on them and bit their head off. Zooomg! It got so good. I was on the edge of my seat. I was squealing. Michelle and Gabriel are the best characters ever. The storyline was unique. I loved this book so hard, I want to eat it. I cannot wait for book two. I want more. Like now!


Besides changing eye color, some typos, misuse and over of words, also at one point the book seemed to be a week passing but it went from August to early October. Yeah it was odd. I was confused. Even with those oopsies the book was great. It was very entertaining and I look forward to the series.

A few months ago Blood Past was offered for free on Amazon so I downloaded it even though it was book 2 in The Warriors of Ankh series. Then I was gifted Blood Will Tell from a fanpage on FB and I started reading and was hooked instantly.

Now, I'm not saying it was the best book ever. Eden was very annoying. She made dumb choices and kept stupid things from people but it was regular YA book stuff. Noah was equally annoying but again your everyday run of the mill YA annoying.

The story was good, even the parts that drag read fast enough that I didn't get bored. The story was character lite. Even though there were a lot of them named so few mattered that it didn't get distracting. The start of the book was so far from the end that it made book 2 very needed and also very appealing. Which is awesome. That is how it should be done.

Now on to the story. Eden is torn. She knows she is a monster. Her survival means preying on innocent souls. She does not want to do this but her entire family is pressuring her, including her beloved brother. To make things worse, her best friend, Noah, has awaken a hunger in her so strong it is damn near impossible to resist. It is not the romantic hunger but one that would leave him dead if she gave in and oh how she wants to give in... Trying to save both their souls she does the only thing possible, pushes him away as she gives into the pressures of her Tyrannical father, unfeeling mother and her sociopath of a cousin who is also her betrothed? Yuck.

Review: Branded by Keary Taylor

Jessica's got a secret...she becomes dead people.

Jessica's had the nightmares for as long as she can remember. Nightmares of being judged for people who have died, of being branded by the angels. Her friends and family think she's a crazy because of it all. Yet she carries the mark of the condemned, seared into the back of her neck, and hides it and herself away from the world.


But when two men she can't ignore enter her life everything changes, including the nightmares. The two of them couldn't be more different. She will do anything to be with one of them. Even tell him the truth about angels, why she never sleeps, and the scar on the back of her neck. But one of the two has set events into motion what will pull her toward her own judgment and turn her into the object of her greatest fear.
The Review:
I adore Cole.


This was a good Indy book. I make that distinction because there is a difference between mainstream and indie, and it's not hard to tell them apart. But that's not the point the point is, it is a good book.

The story took a little too long to get to the meat and potatoes. the filling part wasn't until a little after half way almost to the 3/4ths mark. As this book was about sleep I kept finding myself in need or wanting to take a nap.

The the slow pace had me putting down the book, often times yawning the characters had me picking the book back up. Alex was a perfect YA boy and I enjoyed the Insta-love. Yes, the book has insta-love. It doesn't bother me and I rather enjoy the trope if you do have an issue with insta-love and you push through the slow build of the story once you get to about the 85% mark of the book, you won't be able to put it down. And if you do, the characters and story will stick in your mind. The plot is a very unique twist and addition to the angel theme. I liked it.

Like all great YA novels the boys carry it. Cole and Alex are perfectly awesome. Jessica was almost not memorable, I even had to go back to the book to find her name for this review. I am hoping she comes into her own in the next book or I may start to wonder what Alex or Cole sees in her.

Cover whore: The cover has been redone. I like old cover, which is why I bought book. I am glad my book marks are of the old cover or I'd burn them. New cover? I hate. If it had this cover when I found it, I wouldn't even look twice at it. It actually makes me want to throw up in my mouth a little bit.
