Two different series...Two different books...Same feeling.

They both left me clutching the first two books, sobbing "WHY? Why did they do these to two perfectly good 1st and 2nd books?!" Both final trilogy books made me feel stabby. They were both well written books but left the series unsatisfying. Mockingjay had too many dangling wonders...like well, Gale. And although Maggie Stiefvater can say its not a cliffhanger...you can roll a duck in mud and call it a pig but if it don't squeal but quacks, the dirty thing is still a duck.

I stumbled across this book browsing emusic and decided to download a few sample chapters from Amazon. I can say I am hooked right away. I instantly told my book buddy about the book before I even reached chapter 3.

I downloaded the full version and the audio for when I can't sit and read. I find myself wishing I had more time to just devour this book. I also find myself wish I wrote this book! It is amazing!

The cover is breath-taking. The hero, Vincent, is so damn wonderful. Kate is one of the less annoying YA heroine but she has her moments or it wouldn't be YA. Its like an unwritten rule, that YA girls must make you want to strangle her. But so far I can't stop reading.

I love indie books. I have to admit it because I like non-traditional stories. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy big publishers too but indie books are far less molded. Books all have a formula and rules even indie books but much less so. I liked this book though Lucius annoyed the heck out of me at times. If you followed me on twitter you know my every thought on this book as they happened. It was like a play by play of me reading the book. hilarious stuff. I got addicted to this book even if it was a bit frustrating.

I also enjoyed the title and cover as well as the looks I received when reading it in public and at work. It's those little things that bring me joy in life. lmao

Review:

I always get nervous when reading the newest in a series that I love. How can the author keep building onto a world and not disappoint me. Can it be done, is it possible? I have been burned and hurt before by series before.

Turns out Jeri Smith-Ready, does the impossible and keeps getting better and better with every book she writes. It's like she writes with the motto "take that bitches!" referring to her previous novels. Because if you think past books in WVMP were good then you are going to completely orgasm at Bring on the Night. Jeri brought it on all right; she brought it on like Woah!

Everything kept topping each other. I had no time to catch my breath. All the Shane, the Zombies, the Monroe (whom no longer ranks amongst my graces), and the sad… yes I got teary-eyed, ok FINE I cried, so what! It was just too much with all the, well all the awesome. A lot of explosive shit happens! Bomb after bomb that no series have ever dropped! Jeri Smith-Ready also has successfully scared me about my never having chicken pox. I see somebody who I suspect has it and I run. Funny thing is...it’s usually children. You will understand the Chicken Pox thing once you read.

Still Ciara seems to get her happy ending which I like. Jeri understands me. Things don't need to end perfect for heroine but damn it, wrap it up and put a pretty bow on that shit! I do like the happily ever-err for right now despite it all.

I cannot wait for the next in the series though; true to form, I am nervous.

It is no grand confession when I inform you guys that I am a paranormal romance down to my heart. With that non-surprising confession done I can also say that sometimes they get a bit much in their epic-ness and dark. A girl sometimes needs a break. That was where I was at when I turned to my book stash on my sony e-reader I call Gia. I needed a fast lite read and ya know me, it's gotta be romance.

I picked Eye of the Beholder by Ruth Ann Nordin. I had picked up a load of her e-novellas on smashwords a while back hoping they would one day get a chance with me.

I am so use to the alpha/uber-alpha in books I read so Hero, Dave Larson, knocked me flat on my ass and took my breath away with his beta. Damn, I liked it! He was this funny, handsome and gentle guy who knew what he wanted, how to get it and got it without clubbing you over the head growling "mine." My heart fluttered as I whispered, "Holy shit that is hot."

I also like Mary Peters, the heroine, though her bemoaning inner dialogue of her unattractiveness got a bit much and ground my nerves. She was a good girl and we get to see not only a man but also a whole entire town fall in love with a girl.

Mary is kind to the extreme and I loved seeing her ugly or plain looks (depending on whom you asked) evolve to pretty to beautiful as they got to know her genuine inner beauty and through a man's love who has always seen it.

I have never read an arranged marriage romance but now I am not sure I can stop. I highly suggest you pick this book up you will love it. Who knew Betas could be so drool-worthy?

Demon Hunts by C.E Murphy (Review)

I count this series as one of my favorites…for numerous reasons but one of the highest was Coyote and of course the men. I have to be one of the only people who does not want Joanne with Captain Morrison. I like “Thor”. I like him…I really like him.

Alas, I have to admit though I loved this book it is not as good as the others in the series. It took me an insane amount of time to get into it and eventually it came down to me having to convince myself to read it. Don’t get me wrong once I did the convincing I’d enjoy reading but there was no excitement about it. I am not even sure why. The story was solid as where the characters but it seems to me that Joanne is not “growing” mentally. She is growing in her power and ability but she is staying the same “personality-wise” I can’t explain it. While I loved her at the beginning of the series her lack of growth is making her a bit unlikable. Does that make this book bad? Not at all, C.E Murphy has a talent of never writing a bad book. It’s not even disappointing I just expect a lot more from a protag at this point in the series. Coyote mentions her “growing up” I was asking myself where, when? I didn’t see it. I love you Coyote but nah babe, you are wrong.

But on to the story itself, I always get spooked reading these books. I am a chicken and the zombies, and evil always give me the chills now a serial killer that um eats people…eeks! I LOVE IT! I am biased towards the ending because I really can’t stand Morrison, I just don’t like him.

Iron Daughter-Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa (review)

Okay, I will admit it I am a person who talks, screams and curses at characters while I read and thanks to twitter I now also tweet what I think as well. It makes reading fun for me, when the book causes me to do this rather I am calling them idiots or cheering them on. The Iron Fey series does a little of both. Meghan got the most rants. I just find her on the too stupid to live side at times.

But that just tells you how good the series and the book are because it is one of the series I can’t live without.

In this installment Ash is a jerk. Even more so and Meghan runs after him like a weak little puppy. I just don’t get why YA series do this. Why have the heroine chase after a guy who treats them like crap…for whatever reason. I hate that, more than anything because I hate weak females and these books breed them. Ugh. Meghan is weak weak weak, but the story is good good good in spite of it.

I can’t say too much about the high point of the book because it is so spoiler-y…but yeah Puck is the awesome and I can’t say that I am Team Puck because I wouldn’t wish Meghan on anyone no matter how badly he thinks he wants her. Ash and Meghan deserve each other…both annoying and dumb but Puck, Puck is a classic character.

I hate Ash for reasons, not just oh my gawd I hate him so much. The reason, I hate more than life when a guy decides that he is going to stay away, push away and blah blah blah away from a girl because he loves her so much he wants to protect her. Screw that and screw you dude! That is her choice. Who do you think you are that you can make a decision for a woman and who are you to think SHE can’t protect herself?!

I know this sounds a bit I am woman, hear me roar but….*sigh* fine RAAAAWR!

I am a Iron Fey fan and I will say this story lacked Machina and I needs my Machina! But what it lacked in Machina it made up for in surprise bombshells, Meghan’s family history and the members being one. I hope that isn’t too much a spoiler.

I enjoyed reading this book because I was yelling and tweeting away and the book really pulls you in and involved and you feel invested.

The Sleeping Beauty by Mercedes Lackey (review)

I am a huge fan of retellings and of Mercedes Lackey. Lackey’s style makes the tales that we have heard thousand times over unique and a page turner. Sleeping Beauty was no different. I love the way Lackey sets a scene and I could actually picture the world. I love the traditions and how it drives the story in the most unexpected ways. The fact that you know that the tradition will happen is a given but the “how” will it affect the characters is the surprise.

Rosamund, is the king’s daughter and I liked her straight away. I have to admit sleeping beauty is my least favorite fairytale but this version has completely changed my mind all due to Rosamund.

Though at times the story is a bit predictable, but it’s like that with a lot of retellings; Sleeping Beauty is worth the read because the ending is perfect!

It is very rare to find a good African American novel with paranormal elements so Manifest was a breath of fresh air. I found once you start reading it is really hard to stop. You find yourself missing meals and time just flies by without you noticing or looking up until the last page when you let out a satisfied sigh and close the book.

Even though Krystal was hard to like at first it didn't take away from falling into the story and the rest of the characters are so well formed that you forget that this is fictional. The paranormal elements are a major part of the plot but somehow it doesn't overwhelm and over power the telling of it. The twist and turns kept me always guessing. Just when I thought I had it figured out...Bam! Something else came up and I had to rethink it.

I recommend this book if you have a few hours to devote to it because once you start you truly will not want to stop.

So I am trying to see how long I have to go without blogging until I am no longer a blogger! I kid, what you see here ladies and gentlemen, is a rut in full swing. I can barely finish a book much less sit and write a review.

And I have read some great books that are deserving of a review. Sadly, I have not written them. I do apologize and hope to remedy this rut as soon as I get settled into my new fulltime job schedule.

Thank you for your patience...I will post the awesome books I recently bought soon, because apparently being in a rut has not curbed my book buying addiction.

Warrior by Zoe Archer (Review)

I can't say enough about this book. If you are looking for a book that you just can't put down than this is it! Huntley (Lustley as I refer to him) is straight up sexy, there is no getting around this fact and he is so man-ish so you would think Zoe Archer would give him a heroine so damned stupid you wonder how she manages to breathe on her own but you'd be wrong. Thalia was smart, confident and not too kick ass that you think her hero should do a ball check on her.

The one thing I liked most is...they actually spoke to each other! A lot of Romances downplay the communication it’s just sex sex gimme the sex all the time and the couple barely have a decent conversation which is okay but don't try and pass that relationship as ‘til death do them part because it's not. Once the Hero hears heroine speak beyond the “oh baby give it to me harder” he will be out the door or once Heroine gets tired of his possessive bullshit she will have to call 911 on his stalker ass!

Thalia and Huntley fall genuinely in love and they also have that great communication and chemistry which translate to amaze-ball sexxoring! They are made for each other and it translates onto the pages. One part of the book I had to put my e-reader down, fan myself, wipe my sweaty brow only to yank my e-reader back up and keep reading...I was at work, I didn't care and I think I might have growled at a customer who dared interrupt me while giving them the death glare. If that was you, I am so sorry please allow me to buy you a copy of Warrior so you can understand where I was coming from.

This will be the best book you read all year until you read Scoundrel next month, October 5th to be exact!

It’s my favorite time of year, Book Blogger Appreciation Week! I love everything about this week but my favorite thing is the interviews. I look forward to it all year. I think it’s because my journalism background coupled with my love of chatting with other book lovers.

This year I was partnered up with Misha from My Love Affair with Books. I had a great time getting to know her and hearing her answers. Heeeeeeeere’s MISHA!

Casse: I start off every interview the same way: first and foremost, why do you love books?

Misha: Being an introvert and very anti-social all my life, books have been my constant companion. Every book tells a different story. I love immersing myself into that story and escape from the "real world" now and then. The best part is that at times you can learn so much from books.

Casse: Why do you book blog?

Because I can talk about books nonstop. I love giving my opinion about books, sharing my thoughts and recommending books. My blog is my platform to give my views on the books I read.

Casse: When do you book blog? Do you set aside a certain time of day?

Mostly early morning before going to college and late at night after I am done with assignments and other work.

Casse: What was the first book you totally fell for?

The first book I fell in love with was a long time ago haha. It was one of the books in the Famous Five series by Enid Blyton. I fell in love with Enid Blyton after that and devoured every one of her books in 1 year! That must have been when I was around 9-10.

Casse: Are you a genre snob or do you adventure outside your box (literary fiction, YA and historical fiction) often?

I was a genre snob till a year ago. I would not read anything other than literary fiction! As I started visiting book blogs, I discovered some interesting books in other genres as well. Now I also read YA and historical fiction.

Casse: If you could meet one author, who would you meet and why?

Margaret Atwood . I believe this woman is a genius. Every one of her novels are truly brilliant and original. I would love to meet her and try to figure out how her brain works lol

Casse: How do you determine which book from your TBR pile you’ll read and in what order?

I just pick up the ones which I am most excited about reading first and then I go down the pile.Nowdays I try to read more of YA novels since I totally missed out on reading them as a teenager.

Casse: Okay what do you find the hardest, starting a new book or reading the last page of an amazing book? Why?

Reading the last page of an amazing book. If a novel is truly great, I hate it when it ends. I just wish that more pages would somehow magically appear.......

Casse: If you could pick one book and swap places with the heroine, which book would you pick and why?

I would love to swap places with Elizabeth Bennett. I mean who wouldn't?! I have been in love with Mr Darcy since I was 12 years old which was the first time I read Pride and Prejudice. Also, it would be fascinating to live in that time period.

Casse: What is your favorite song?

Very difficult question. There are so many! If I had to choose one it would be "Our Farewell " by Within Temptation.

Casse: Favorite food to snack on while reading?

Apples ! lol. I love fruits. And a cup of coffee maybe...

Casse: Bookmarks or turn the page down to keep you place in a book?

Bookmarks! I hate turning down the pages and it physically hurts me to see anyone fold the page.

Casse: What is the best part of Book Blogging?

Interacting with authors I only dreamt of talking to and with other book lovers .

Casse: What advice would you offer new Book bloggers?

Being a relatively new blogger myself, all I can say is don't get intimidated. There are so many many blogs out there that you might feel lost , confused and even nervous at first. Just don't give up. It takes some time before you get followers or before people start visiting your blog. Have patience!

Casse: ARCs: receiving free, for them or against them?

I am not exactly against them . But it makes me very uncomfortable and guilty receiving them.

Casse: How do you feel about contest? Is it just to get more followers or a good way to show appreciation of your followers?

Both I think. I don't think there is anything wrong in trying to get more followers. After all , if there are no followers , who will read your blog. More importantly, for me, contests are a great way to show appreciation of your followers.

Linger by Maggie Stiefvater (Review)

Poetic, haunting and heartbreaking. If you loved Shiver than Linger is going to rock your world. There are more characters to fall in love with and more characters to break your heart.

Maggie Stiefvater has truly out done herself. This ranks as one of the best books of the year.

This book has one thing that Shiver didn't have that just makes this book excellent. Cole St Clair, He is all things that make YA hotties hot. He is dark, moody, funny, wounded and damn (I repeat) HOLY DAMN SECK-SEA! He totally brings yummy to Linger.

This installation is more heartbreaking than Shiver but the love story is still there so pure and bitter sweet it makes you swoon.

I will also give you some advice: even if you are not into audio books...by THIS audio book for 3 reasons. 1.) Cole sounds as smooth and seductive as honey 2.) Sam sings and 3.) COLE! He sounds like sex for your headphones! He is just pure lusty sex. Oh yes.

Crazy for Love by Victoria Dahl (Review)

Victoria Dahl is a true Contemporary Romance genius. Her Hero’s are lust worthy and sweet while her Heroines are hilariously realistic and likeable and in this novel there are double the heroes and double the heroines so it’s double the Hottness!
Crazy for Love is the story of Max and Chloe. Max is a control freak who worries about everything and everyone her meets and Chloe is the latest tabloid fodder who is portrayed in the media as a raving bridezilla from hell when her would be husband fakes his death to not marry her. Max and Chloe are a match made in hilarious sexiness. These two are so dang hott you will wish they would get to it already…or was that just me? For me they could have dropped pants on the first page and it wouldn’t be soon enough; that is how hott they were!
Chloe’s best friend is the beautiful yet shy and socially awkward Jenn who’s idea it is to take Chloe on a much needed vacation as an escape from the paparazzi. Jenn just wants Chloe to have a good time, to unwind and have a little wild sex maybe too but Jenn also might find a little of those things in store for her with Max’s little brother, Elliot the workaholic hottie. They both don’t think they have much to offer anyone else but damn Elliot is super sexy scientist and damn if that ain’t hott!
You might think that the characters would be a repeat of Dahl’s previous contemporaries but you will be pleasantly surprised that these characters are fresh and new…almost shiny even. If you are a fan of Dahl’s you feel a new justification for it and if you aren’t one yet after this book you will be.

Butterface by Gwen Hayes (mini review)

Once you read this book, you will have discovered your new favorite author!

There isn't much I can say about this book, it re-enforces my belief that some authors shouldn't write short stories! They write stories that are too good to end so soon and gives me a sad when they end. To read it is to love it. I was hooked as soon as I read the synopsis. You think you are going to despise Lucas O'Leary but he really is made of awesome. I also found Beth very easy to relate too. The love story unfolds nicely with a friendship so honest and endearing that again, you wish it wasn't a short story. But the ending is truly the best part; Gwen Hayes has this amazing habit of wrapping up her stories with realistic and touching endings that make you swoon with how perfect and romantic they are.

So Over You by Gwen Hayes (mini review)

I am so NOT over this book!

I love snarky heroines and heros, smart characters, memorable secondary ones and hot guys. A lot of short romances are superficial but So Over You has layer beneath layer of depth that you will keep reading late into the night just so you can reach the sweet end. And sweet it is. It is amazing and perfect and will leave you breathless and clutching at your bosom squealing "Ohmaaaagaaawd" that would do a southern bell proud. Like with all Gwen Hayes books, I bet you can't read just one!

For my celebration of my blogiversary I am doing my very first author interview. I am so excited because its with Shannon Delany. Yes, THE Shannon Delany. I also consider her a friend and idol in writing which makes her the perfect person I want to interview. By that I mean I stalk- erm follow her on twitter, her blogs amd pretty much anywhere (online even I draw a line somewhere) she appears...Tah-dah I am right there too. Okay sounds creepy but 1.) When did you write your very first story and why?

Shannon: The first story I remember writing was in 4th grade as part of an assignment. My teacher believed all f us should try writing a book at some point so she had us write a story then she would type it up, we would illustrate it and then we "bound" it using cardboard and scraps of wallpaper the local hardware store donated. I remember even then being amazed at how it felt to hold my words instead of just say them.

What was the story about?

Shannon: I don't remember what the first one was about. The only one I do remember was the one I wrote about how I found one of our kittens run over on the street in front of my house. I guess I've always used writing to cope with things. [Awwe so sad, :'( that has to suck!]

Did you ever have that writer's aha moment and think "hey I want to do this writing for real" or was it just naturally the next step?

Shannon: I always sort of messed around with it. It wasn't until I got serious interest from publishers that I thought, Hey, this is crazy enough it might just work! see, if you're too serious and get rejected, it hurts. But if you tell yourself often enough that you're just messing around, rejections not tough to deal with--I think I had a safety default setting on my attitude before last year.

Do you ever get terrified when thinking about your book being out there for the world to read?

Shannon: Holy. Heck. Yes.

So I know 13 to Life is a 3 book series (duh I mean trilogy) is it possible *fingers crossed* that there can be more books a la Rachel Caine's YA series going from 6 bk series plus stand alone segments of a series for as long as it works?

Shannon: Eh, anything's possible. I have plots for at least a few other books in the series, but I also have totally different stories I'd like to pursue. Unfortunately there's only so much time in each day, so, perhaps at some point I'll need to make an interesting choice on what gets pursued and what sits obediently by.

Totally not book related...I know that you have done Hand Cut Paper Art and very well, do you still do this and do you even have the time with all your book stuff?

Shannon: I haven't had time to pick up a blade since late 2008, I think (which was when my pirate designs were used in a film created by UWSP students). I've developed a mild Lotte Reiniger obsession. I would love to get back into creating scherenschnitte and messenschnitte--it totally transforms the way you perceive things and simplifies things into an iconic existence in some ways--I actually have several children's books in mind I'd love to illustrate with my cuttings. And to animate them... Muahaha! A friend wants me to design wolfy bookmarks to mass-cut for fans...I just need time, you know?

I have noticed that your Art and writing have a lot of Mythos- legends and history so when you research does it start out as a for fun thing and later find its way into your work or do you set out for certain things and just find it fun as a coincidence?

Shannon: The more intense art pieces I've done did require a lot of thought and planning because of the techniques I'm using. With papercraft and scratchboard you can't really fix mistakes so you have to plan. Same with the writing, it's in there, but whereas the art must be ploted in advance mainly, the story tends to grow much more organically and the mythos works its way in there (sometimes surprising me).

Have you considered doing an entire scene from your book out of hand cut art? That would be so awesome.

Shannon: I'd love to have time to do that, Casse--but I'd also love to do an animated booktrailer for the next novels using silhouettes like Reiniger did--it would give a truly unique feel.

One last question what do teen werewolves eat when they are vegging out?

Shannon: LOL! Well, Max eats anything and everything so he wouldn't be picky. Pietr woud probably veg out with eggplant and summer squash since it can be grilled (and eggplant can be made into a parmesan) and sort of "fake" meatiness. ;-)

I am a bit cynical when it comes to romance and self help books. I hate books that claim to have all the answers and honestly I thought this book would be like that as well, but I was wrong. This book was a breath of fresh air.

I did read this book with ice cream though because it’s how I read all self help books. But Jackie Johnson seems to really have lived it which I think helps give the book that voice of “look I am not saying this is the only way but here, if it helps you then take my advice into consideration.” I also love that it’s biblical and I will recommend it to the people at my singles group at church proudly.

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater (Review)

What kind of YA book is this? That is what I found my inner snark saying when Sam entered the picture. He was never mean to Grace, never cruel never withheld his emotions or self…what the hell? This is not the YA I know and love-hate! What message will it leave young ladies with? That they deserve to be treated with respect? NO NO NO! Unhealthy stalking yes, that is good but they admit to each other it is an obsession. Maggie Maggie Maggie. NO you aren’t doing it riiight.

All that to say, I love Sam and Grace’s relationship. I love how the connection is shown. The way they fall in love. I love the emotion in this book. It made me feel smarter, when I read this book. I have read Rilke poetry and a lot of it. I have read it to a guy I was seeing as he fell asleep at night—. *face palm* wait, did I REALLLY just admit that out loud? Sheesh. Anyway embarrassing moment erased. Yeah I read a lot of poetry. Some of it complicated and complex but most of it emotional and beautiful and Shiver reads like one smart, beautiful and lyrical poem. It is brilliant! THIS, this right here is a prime example of why I love YA and why I don’t ever give up on it!

I found myself hating grace's dad. At one of the most painful parts in the book he probably assumes its some silly girl thing and it pisses me off how clueless they are! They have no idea what is really going and they don’t even care to want to find out. I love this theme in YA because…most teens feel like the parents are the enemy or the villain or the completely wrong all the time so of course they love to read books where the parents really are jerks.

Shiver took my breath away.

Dead Girl's Dance by Rachel Caine (Review)

DAMN I love this series! Claire is pretty awesome and Shane is fracking HOTT! I know you all like Mr. Glass but me not so much. He is okay but he annoys me sometimes as well as Eve.

This book was better than the first and I am shocked by that because Glass house knocked me on my ass it was so good.

Once again the pace is swift and flawless to the point where you can't stop. Shane's jerk of a father adds to the danger of Morganville Vamps and My Boo finds himself in real danger. And the plots were a lot more serious, darker and involved with dances, vampire hierarchy, family secrets I can only see these books getting better and better.

Claire still makes mistakes but different ones so since she is teen it’s ok. But at the end Claire goes all sex kitt-eh and says, "Wanna play baseball?" It is completely unexpected from Claire and hott. I love it! Poor guy didn't know what hit him.

CRESCENDO by Becca Fitzpatrick Excerpts

That is all for now, just had to share that news. I was excited. Also do you think this cover is as Epic as the Hush, Hush cover? My opinion is no but I still like it; Hush, Hush cover just took my breath away!

Glass House by Rachel Caine (Review)

I am a little disappointed in my friends. Why you ask? Oh I will tell you why...BECAUSE NOBODY TOLD ME HOW AWESOME THE Morganville Vampire Series IS! That is a crime against me. Seriously? No one even thought to mention it in passing?

The characters are awesome, the story is awesomer and the writing is so well paced that it is awesomest! I love how the vamps aren't some whimsical creatures everybody lust over. They are realistic and scare the humans shitless!

Now, I know some of you are all about Michael Glass and hey I don't blame you. But don't over look Shane. I am all about Shane.

Claire is an okay girl but I fear though she is ok now with the mistakes she makes; she may grow up into a TSTL character so I hope she has some growth because yes teens mess up but they also eventually learn from those mistakes. So the mistakes from Glass House I hope aren't repeated in Dead Girls' Dance.

Eve I haven't really figured out yet but I do like her. She is a sweet kid which she tries to disguise beneath her Goth...Actually every Goth kid I have met usually ARE the sweetest kids. I am glad Rachel Caine has picked up on that Kudos.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked out this book but I was pleasantly surprised. The ending was pure torture and I loved it so much I laughed while saying, "Oh Rachel Caine, you..." fill in the blank.

I finished this book the night before she spoke at a luncheon I attended so I wasn't surprised at her sense of humor and ballsy-ness. Anyone willing to end a book for teens like that HAS to have humor and BALLS!

My Soul to Keep by Rachel Vincent (Review)

My Soul to Keep dug a little deeper than the previous in this series and it was completely heartbreaking and emotional which made it the best so far!

Rachel Vincent really turned the characters inside out so we learned a lot more about them and they jumped off the pages and became real to me this time around. Where the other books in the series were good, My Soul to Keep went beyond just good it was haunting. MSTKeep had me on the edge of my seat, I believe my heart literally broke a few times as I whimpered, "Nooo, why are you doing this?" I am sure I got a few odd lucks but I never looked up from the pages to see.

Kaylee is plunging deeper into her new world and new abilities and she is growing as a woman and a Bean Sidhe. Nash pulls out a lot of surprises and I think this time around he is more imperfect than he was portrayed in the other books. Tod was wonderful, delightfully charming as always and but he also shows us a lot more.

This is all around a darker story but one that us readers can relate to somewhat and Vincent expands Kaylee, Nash and Tod more and what we know about them. Relationships evolve into completely new things. The ending truly will have you closing the book with a heavy sigh and googling when the next book will be released,

My Soul to Keep was excellent!

The Dark Divine by Bree Despain (Review)

Have you ever read a book that was incredibly awesome yet you can't review it because words will never be enough only high pitched squeals are? For me that book is The Dark Divine by Bree Despain. Daniel *sigh* he is bad boy heaven for me. I love them dark and brooding. He was nice and swoon worthy. I'd say on the yummy scale he was tippy top top!

I liked Grace off and on. Let me explain. When she was making Daniel happy I loved her, when she wasn't-I HATED HER FREAKING GUTS! All in all the characters were very well rounded. I liked most of them actually no I didn't, I liked Grace's younger siblings and dad but Jude who is her older brother, her mom and her best friend April I hates them, a lots. Not that they gave me reason I just really did. Don I heartz him. He was just a touch of sweetness and innocence.

Bree Despain also told a story that unfolded very nicely. It was very well timed. Everything came out at its right time but she dropped hints of the outcome from the very beginning.

YA romance magic? TDD has it. Page 199 had be lightheaded and screaming, "THAT IS SO FREAKING HOT, sweet, romantic!" I actually contemplated rushing into the nearest forest and demanding that the first wolf turn into a man and cuddle me in his freaking arms. Then I realized that it would sooner bite me than love me also how painful and embarrassing it would be to explain what exactly I was trying to do. So I decided to pass on that idea. I suppose I will be back in Daniel’s arms when The Lost Saint is released. The best things in life are worth waiting for; besides there are plenty of book boys to fall for in the mean time, right. But Daniel will always be special to me.

Saving Rachel by John Locke

I just finished Saving Rachel. I know what yall are thinking, "Casse, what no smut this time?" Okay for one I am not always dirty! I don't care what people have been telling you! Its all- well, mostly lies. I like all things that make my heart race. Back to the point. Rachel and her needing to be saved.

This book was so action packed, it pretty much read like a summer blockbuster. I had to read it everywhere. I read it at work and glared at those who tried to seperate me from my Donny! (It's fine Donovan likes when I call him that. But he will deny it.) That's why I don't need the smutty books...I gots it in my mind lol. I kid. Here is the synopsis because that's the best I can do without dropping spoiler bombs everywhere! Trust me you are going to want to read this book spoiler free.

I am going to get all of the Donovan Creed books for all the guys in my family because I know they will love love love it almost as much as I did. As much as I recommend reading this book (and I recommend this a lot) I recommend going to John Locke's webpage...Dude is funny, just a warning, don't agree to allow him help you with T-shirt sizes...he just wants to oogle your goodies!

My Soul to Save by Rachel Vincent (Review)

Did yall hear that? I just let go a fan girl squeal that would make Kaylee proud. Kaylee is a bean sidhe ya know what we call a banshee? She probably heard me since she is from my neighborhood.

I have to say I like this series probably more than any other YA series because Kaylee is real and flawed and sort of likeable. Nash, he is a bit oversexed but that's teen jocks for you.

I like how things don't end with neatly wrapped bows. This is odd because normally I NEED that neat bow to like it. I am glad I read this book because Rachel Vincent has an awesome writing style and even when you cringe at what she makes happen you still keep reading because how can you not!

This books plot has Kaylee, Nash and Tod going back and forth to the netherworlds to save someone from Tod's past soul. I still can't figure out why Kaylee agreed to but I suppose some people are more helpful than me; go figure. I would have felt bad for them but in the end I would not risk myself for it. Sorry. But it's gallant to read about even if it is fiction.

I could also hug Rachel Vincent because its book 2 and still noooo love triangle! Yes! I love that. I despise love triangles. It's like trying to make wishy-washy whore-dom okay. It's not okay in adult books and it is not okay in YA! Period.

My Soul to Save is just as good as the first in the series which is pretty damn good! I am so hooked.

Hunting Ground (Alpha&Omega 2) by Patricia Briggs (Review)

I must say I do love Patricia Briggs’ mind. And though Mercy Thompson is one of my favorite series ever, Alpha and Omega isn’t too bad either. Anna is a little bit too weak for my liking and skittish, which gets kind of annoying. Also it still isn’t clear what Charles sees in her because you would think he would find her annoying. It is just not believable for me yet. But if it were I would love their romance, because they do it so well. Besides what I just mentioned.

The plot is fantastic! It is not your typical werewolf plot and it is fast passed and I never had a dragging moment. I stayed up all night just to finish it. Once I started I just couldn’t stop until I found out what was going on. I love it! Each character feels so real and I liked them or hated them like I would real people.

One thought I had when finishing this book was “Mercy and Anna are in the same world but they are totally different girls.” I like that fact and this book was a little weaker than the first but a solid installment in this series.

Bran was fantastic as always he is so consistent. But in both series they talk about how scary he is and badass but I just find myself wanting to make out with him…wait forget I said that because that just say more about who I am and what my issues are than anything else. What I am trying to say is Bran is, charismatic. Yes, that’s it. The same with Charles he seems a little rough and he is described as having almost animal magnetism and freaking beautiful hot but as I said I still find myself wanting to suck face with HIS FATHER and not him! Okay, now that my crush on Bran-Bran is embarrassingly evident, I will move on. Anna is also described as being Omega but not weak, but I disagree the only time she gets badass is when she “borrows” from her bad ass mate. Alright at the end she did go all bad ass and I was hoping in my sit all giddy because she was like freaking cool as hell! Then she fizzled and punked up again and shriveled again. Bummer. Maybe she could hang out with Mercy and get a backbone.

Either way I really loved this book and I want to be Bran’s bitch. (Did I just say that? Jeesh, Casse! Have some dignity please, you are embarrassing!)

A shoebox-sized package is propped against the front door at an angle. Our front door has a tiny slot to shove mail through, but anything thicker than a bar of soap gets left outside. I slide open the junk drawer and pull out a pair of scissors. Then I run a scissor blade around the package and lift off its top. Inside the shoebox is a rolled-up tube of bubble-wrap. My Thoughts:
I am about to get candid with you. Unposed as Hannah Baker will inform you in this novel; so honestly, I really did not want to read this book almost if not more than I did want to read it. Why you ask? Because I knew it would hit a little too close to home.

You see, Hannah is a teenage girl who commits suicide. But before she does she records on cassette tape the 13 reasons why. See, now you get the title. Jay Asher lets this story unfold amazingly. I was haunted by it and every chance I got I would run and get back into it. Walking home from work; I had it on audio book. At work; I had the hardcover and reading in-between customers. It was haunting. Even when I didn't agree with Hannah, I understood her. Because I was her.

I too was a 16 year old. I was perpetually the new kid but where she was a rumor minefield, I was simply invisible everywhere I went. The unseen, the cared for, I simply was not there. And like Hannah, I thought about suicide being the answer. I cringed a lot reading this book. Because it shows how desperate Hannah is and what got her to the point of giving up but it also showed exactly how selfish she was and in turn how selfish I almost was. I had written the letter goodbye, several of them. But in the end, thankfully I found a reason not to; any reason would have worked for me.

That’s what this story meant to me. It shows how those who are contemplating suicide are really looking for is any reason to stay alive. Just the smallest thing. It is a sad fact that a lot of people don’t find that reason. A fellow blogger recently did not find a reason to stay alive. It’s who I thought of when I read this book, Prissy Green AKA karissa, she didn’t find that reason. Everyone says but she was so happy and fine.

Fact: right before someone commits suicide people often say that the person seemed happy and calm. That is because they have decided already and they are at peace because they KNOW. They KNOW what they are going to do. They see the end. So if you see a sudden mood swing for the better in a person, don’t just let it pass as “Okay, they are better now.” It’s exactly the opposite; they are in the most danger at that point. Don’t over look it. Don’t over look anyone.

This isn’t much of a review, I know. But I will say I love this book. It felt so organic and real. It was like it was happening in a local school to the point that I want to go to my neighborhood school and shout out “Hannah! Hannah Baker? I can help you.” Because even if the she or even he isn’t named Hannah Baker…They are still out there. Know the signs. Be aware of the Warning signs!

Prophecy of the Sisters by Michelle Zink (Review)

I had heard a lot of things about this novel; both good and bad things. One of my favorite ones was a bad one because I was inclined to agree, but where they hated it because of one thing; I liked it for that one reason.

This reviewer said that nothing ever happened it was just talking at various locations. And though that is pretty much the case, liked that about this book. I liked that Michelle Zink didn't feel the need to stuff it full with so much action that we never really caught the information being revealed. Zink did a lot of research for this book and it is evident. Those of you, who aren't angel-junkies like me, may think that it is majorly fictionalized to fit the story but it is not. This makes Zink's novel all the more amazing. She found a way to tell the story built around something that already exists so it almost feels organic and real.

I didn't think I was going to like this story much because I hate when families are pitted against one another because I always feel it is unrealistic. If my sister was an evil witch than I still wouldn't go against her, we are family I don't give a crap how bad she was. But I did not have that problem with it in this story; I actually thought Lea was too soft on Alice! I can't give it away but you will know what I am talking about when you read it. I thought Lea should be doing some slapping! I can understand Michelle Zink not wanting to say "So I bitch slapped that wicked witch!" It is YA but she could have used a more tame description like "I molly-whopped Alice for what she did. She was evil for real yo!" I am joking but Lea's reactions were far too weak and soft. That is my only complaint with this book. Also it felt like it didn't resolve any issue. The end was anti-climactic. I always think a series/trilogy should have a "grand theme" that runs unresolved through to the end, the big finale, so to speak and a mini-plot that can be concluded at the end of the current book. Each installment with it's own mini-theme that can be resolved. This series does not have that. Still a good read.

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl (Review)

*sigh* I will admit, I was not all that excited about reading this book. I told myself I wouldn't read it. There was so much hype and I had no idea what it was about, I thought maybe wolves. It seemed like a big set up. I am well aware that set ups as big as this one only lead to being a huge let down. I let my fellow book bloggers' raves get the best of me so I bought the book and was like "holy mother! This is a big book." I cannot read books that big unless it is Stephen King GOOD. So I downloaded the audio book. Good thing because the audiobook was a very well done.

Like most books its size it lagged a lot. I found issues arising in the book just to extend the plot longer otherwise it had no reason. Near end of the book Lena, a truly annoying and boring girl, pulled a flip-flop a la Edward Cullen via New Moon and pulled away from Ethan saying it will only make it worse when she goes dark. Okay that would be fine IF IT WASN'T ALREADY TOO LATE! The dude had already become a pariah at school because of her! So she pretty much left the boy dangling out there in loser land by himself. It made no sense but to make another obstacle to extend the excruciatingly long book and make it longer. If stupid things like that and Amma's pencil intimidation, which was laughable because seriously did she stab anyone in the past with that sharp pencil? Otherwise, why were they scared? But back to the point, if they had cut the fat like those mentioned above it would be a very awesome and appropriate length book.

The only redeeming character the book had to offer was Macon Ravenwood. I do wish they would have told more about him and his family and background because Lena and Ethan were too weak, stupid and boring for me. They could have replaced Ethan’s pointless dad with more Macon and it would have been a big plus.

I see where the story was supposed to be going and it might have hit the mark if by page 300 it was wrapping it up instead of having almost 300 more pages to go! I hope the rest in this series doesn’t go the way this one did.

Because it has been months since finishing and I am still thinking about it. It is a good story even with it's mammoth size...I now wish it was longer and still I wish there was more Macon!

Start Me Up by Victoria Dahl (Review)

Ok, let me just say, I do not like bondage or S&M or whatever you pervs call it. I am a good virginal Catholic girl who happens to love sometimes trashy but all the time dirty books. Don't judge me!

With that said I usually hate bondage books, I can't stand anyone (male or female) being submissive. Now, that said, I looooooved Start Me Up. I love that it was completely different sex than Talk Me Down. I love the fantasy and role play. I love how the heroine and hero went about it. How realistic they were doing it. Okay dirties not *doing IT* but making Lori's fantasies come true and the way they were shit nervous about it. Yall are so nasty, pervs.

I also adored Quinn. Like to the point we could date until the night he got all creepy and started saying how rude I was flaunting my ex-lover and how I need a safe word and talking of tying me up...I'd have to dump his hott ass right then! But he also made me smile during the sexxxoring scene in that chapter; he is such a good guy and not use to the whole "bondage make her beg" thing. Alas, Pleasure is not pain and vis-a vers-a to me. Sorry Quinn. LOL But, Get your Jollies Quinn get your Jollies!

I love how sexually repressed Lori is. She doesn't even know it either! She is a secret little dirty girl. She proves pixies ARE little skeezes! *grins*

Now intertwine with what I just said about the sex and characters with the hot and awesome storyline of parents, betrayal and suspense all while fighting to NOT fall head over heels in lurve while they have kinky sexxor. ROWR!

Victoria Dahl writes the awesomest, most likeable and relatable characters ever! I so wish I were a Dahl heroine! A catholic, virgin who still dazzles men with her blatant sexuality but it’s all an act. She'd (me) is really afraid to be in love or loved and has trust issues, until a sexy hottie comes along and breaks through her hard shell and sees through her facade. Shows her lovingly that she has control issues and then blows her mind in bed! Um yea if I were a Dahl heroine that would be my story (I hope, anyway)...Since I am not, I read Start Me Up!

So my current WIP is going very well. I am in the process of a CP and Beta Reader search; it's harder than you would imagine. I have my agent list that I will query as soon as I start my 2nd draft but I can't start that draft until I do 2 things. The first and most important thing...finish first draft. *head desk* I am almost done. 2nd thing is get another set of eyes on this baby! Let me tell yall something, family member's make horrible betas. My mom makes me feel like friggin Anne Rice (um I wish! She is one cool ass Catholic Chick, right?) But Mother's and big Sister's are not an ideal beta reader. Daddy's would be uncomfortable reading their daughter's writing about peen-atration. ;-p
But in cooler news, I have registered for RWA in Nashville for this summer and today I will reserve the hotel room. Yay, if anyone else is going let me know okay?

I would have gladly given this book 5 stars if it weren't the last in a trilogy. I seemed so unfinished. It left the series wide-open. We are left hanging in a manner I vocally said "WTF?" So much was left unanswered and so much was undone. This was clearly written before Luna Books pulled the plug. I assumed there would be a book for each dancer and so did Christie Golden when she wrote this novel. I waited so long for this book when it was released and it was worth it...if only I could read the rest after this for a conclusion.

In Stone's Clasp by Christie Golden (Review)

It took me awhile to warm up to the hero. Jareth was obnoxious and had too much of old skool romance hero in him. But Kevla thawed him a bit. And Golden once again did great world building. I was in this icy world and had to read it bundled up. I love how this series has enough heartbreak to pull you in and make you grieve but also leaves enough hope for things to get better. Nice change from Kevla's firery world. I loved the extreme opposites in these two, Kevla and Jareth as well as their worlds.

Synopsis: Flame Dancer Kevla of Arukan seeks the missing elements -- Stone and Sea, Wind and Soul -- that must join to preserve their world from destruction. On Fire's Wings Christie Golden (Review)

I love when a fantasy book is done right. Golden builds worlds so clearly that you can see, feel and taste them. I felt like I was in the desert, I felt the hot sand and smelled the spicy air! The characters were beautiful and the story was inspiring, tragic and heartbreaking all at the same time. I loved reading as relationships
grew and as villains were evolved before my eyes. This book was wonderful!

Synopsis: She was born without caste or position in Arukan, a country that prized both. Then a chance encounter led her to a better life. But it also brought her to danger and destiny. Because Kevla Bai-sha's fevered dreams -- looming threats to their land and visions of dragons that had once watched over her people -- held the promise of truth.

Blonde with a Wand by Vicki Lewis Thompson (Review)

Blonde with a Wand has helped me rediscover my love of light and funny paranormal romance. It’s what first pulled me to the genre. It is reminiscent of Playing with Fire by Gena Showalter. That is a very good comparison considering Playing with Fire is my fav para romance one of them at least.

Blonde with a Wand was very easy to read and pulls you in rather quickly. Once you start reading it’s not even an option to NOT read it. The Characters are likeable. Jasper and Anica seem like a perfect fit from the start. Their chemistry is amazing.

The story progressed nicely and it was good to read a light storyline. By that I mean their romance didn't seem life or death it was self contained and only involved them. Which was a good change from the dark and heavy plots I usually get involved with.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the resolution and how the situation was resolved. It was fairly predictable but only because it was realistic and fit what we all know from childhood movie favorites. Sacrifice for true love conquers all.

I love the side characters, Orion the cat and Lily. I loved the villain, as annoying as she was, a bitter neuter happy old bat. I just simply loved everything about this book.

Kudos to a job well done. Some books feel like a chore to finish, this one did not. I am glad I was able to rediscover chick-lit like paranormal romance again.

Truly, Madly by Heather Webber (Review)

I received this ARC around fall last year and the cover was so purple & pink that I knew it had to be my Valentine's weekend date. Fastforward, it is now the 12th of Feb and I sat down with it and Tah-dah! I am already done.

I can't say it was the best book ever because for one I hate for my paranormal romantic comedies to be a series, which this is. And normally I say I hate something and right away I am proven to be an idiot because I read a book and presto, I love it. Example I don't like witch book last night I finished a witch book I loved. I don't like psychic books and yeah I can say I still do not like psychic books. All the same this book was a breezy and entertaining read. Wish it was a standalone that had other characters that a series could be made from like a sister and friends quest for love but no.

I highly recommend this book because it was well done, engaging and the characters were laugh out loud adorable funny!

HAUNTED LOVE by Cynthia Leitich Smith (Review)

I just let out a mental squee! It would have been verbal but I am at work. Cynthia L. Smith rocked this vampire story.

When I read synopsis, I was thinking the BBC show 'Being Human' which had me excited. Now, it was not like the show at all but I am still excited. I am now hopeful of the rest of the stories in this anthology.

Cody the main character was a breath of fresh air. I hardly ever read from male pov if its not female its usually split. I thought I wouldn't like it but it was surprisingly comfortable. I didn't have any problems relating. It was a love triangle, which I generally not just hate but loathe! But Smith did it completely right. She had your gut pulling for the one who was meant to be.

I forget how much I adore short stories, because it is almost impossible to be a dragging story. And sometimes after reading a lengthy novel a short story is exactly what you need. If you find that, this is where you are at ever, I recommend this be the one.

Talk Me Down by Victoria Dahl (Review)

Rowwr! Dahl is bringing the SECK-SEA back!

I need to start off with how much I love twitter. I use to be cruising for books, much like one would cruise for men. I like them dark, dangerous with a little bit of 'dear Lord is he gonna bite me? and dear God how much am I gonna love it?!" Yup I love the creepy romance, paranormal. But I followed Victoria Dahl (I call her V. Dahl or V...In my mind at least. Yup best friends she and I...Again in my mind lol Don't judge me.) I figured heck she is funny in twitter life and makes me swoon in girl crush-dom daily why wouldn't her books give me book wood?

I read Talk Me Down in August, then again in September, again in December and today I read it again. It has got to the point I’m like oh-Kay Casse review it already and read the rest of her books which the ebook store I purchased them from are holding hostage from me. womp womp.

I hate heroines usually they always make me cringe with their dumb-ness. Or I hate the way too insanely man-ish Hero whose balls must be so big I can't comprehend how they can walk. But Molly & Ben are just the shit! (I had to go back to my 90's high school days on yall sorry.) But I think Molly is so real. I couldn't hate her because hell I want to BE her, when I grow up at least. Some EX's would say I am her sans the blatant and abundant seck-sea. And Ben, woah we all KNOW how much I love cops. He is a perfect balance of manly, cowboy, rugged, quiet, sweet and dude he is from Colorado. Colorado equals gooooood.

The plot was not overwhelming and it has enough twist to keep you reading eagerly and guessing. I love the hometown girl moving back to where she was raised, but all grown up and self-aware with a secret plot. Ben is delightfully reserved poor guy until Molly blows (literally) into town.

If I were to go into all the wonderful aspects of Talk Me Down it would be as long as a college thesis. So just get this book and read it. I promise you will love it. Caution you may have to fan yourself while reading the hot spots. Dahl is one of the Dirties so you know the secks involving Moll and Ben is Dahl-icious and these randies do it everywhere! I am about to go try and get the rest of the Tumble Creek stories (Start Me Up & Lead Me On) to download. I have been having a huge technology fail this week.

Fallen by Lauren Kate Review

I have an obsession with angels. I have researched them extensively. I found a few things very clever in this book. The main thing being Daniel's last name; Grigori and the title of book mentioned in this book, The watcher. I can't say too much without spoilers but that is about the only thing that made me "squee". I am a catholic girl and any catholic girl worth her weight in salt can tell you about the order of Angels so I was really into the cleverness of it.

Other than that bit of clever-ness the book was a little slow moving for me. It moved too slow and I was like come on already and get to the big reveal. And my gawd, it didn't help that Luce was a bit daft! She is dolt, which was almost enough to make me stop mid story but once the story got going it was a lot better and thankfully I didn't stop.

The characters, excluding Lucinda, were good though and Mrs Kate did a great job on Cam. His part was perfection for who he is. Of course I loved him, no surprise there. Daniel, I also liked but he was also a bit confusing. The major problems and dragging of the story is because of HIM and his talking in circles. I was even like "huh? You couldn't explain that a little better Daniel. I know Luce is dumb but MERCY! Clear that explanation up a bit."

Besides the dragging of the story I guess it was a good angel tell. Mrs Kate did do research which I love about this story. I also love how she didn't bore us with a lot of back round info.

If you liked the characters immortal instruments series by Cassandra Clare, you will most likely like the Fallen characters.

My Review

Lucky the Fox is a great protag. He is completely damaged, completely dying to be accepted by someone. He wants to do the right thing. To the person he works for he wants to offer blind devotion. I enjoyed reading how Toby O'Dare became Lucky the Fox and how God's grace transformed him into closer to the person God will be proud of. It isn't a preachy tale but it engages the reader. Anne Rice can never be accused of not being able to tell a story. Rice's telling of Toby's story and first angelic mission will absolutely enthrall you. This story is completely captivating. Rice will always remain on top and the last 2 sentences of the book had me hitting google to see when book 2 hits the shelves. Anne Rice's Angel Time has you hooked to the very last words, The End.

New Year so I have decided to finally post my official review policy.
I respect authors hard work and will never outright trash anyones work. I try to never post a purely negative review because I am not the type who has to finish reading a book I started. If it is bad I usually stop.
I am starting to get review copies and to keep my promise to the conditions to me receiving these books, I will, I am sure have to post a bad book review. I am again positive I won't like all books I receive for reviewing purpose. And since I promised to review them, not finishing the book is not an option so sadly I will have to occassionally put a negative 4 cents in. But I will always try and also point out good points with my usual snark.

I mainly enjoy romance novels. They don't have to be the tawdry Harlequin kind, but I DO thoroughly enjoy those as wel. I just like positive romance. I also love paranormal and fantasy romance more than any other genre or subgenre. That is mainly what you will see on my page. I also review faith books.

I do receive ARCs and free copies of books for review purposes only I do not consider these as bribes or payment for a positive review. Regaurdless of how or from whom I obtain a book I will always give my honest and truthful opinion in my review of it.

She was notified by twitter maybe 2 weeks ago. It was completely random. My niece Zoey (9mnths) did the honor of using her ball popper machine to pick out a comment number. Balls went flying everywhere and it didn't go as smoothly as planned but pink number 1 ball was picked up by my lovely Zoey. I thought it would be #2 purple ball cause its her fav and she usually goes for it first.

New Year reflection

For as long as I remember books have been apart of my life. My siblings and I would sit inside on a beautiful summer's day in Alaska. And believe me Alaska has gorgeous summers. We would spend all day reading silently to ourselves or listening to my second oldest brother read Witches or One Fat Summer which were two of his favorite books. We'd unwittingly be up reading well past midnight. (It is the land of the midnight sun.)
I also remember writing being apart of my life forever. My big sister and I would get diaries for christmas, usually two. We'd sit there and fill it up that day or sometimes have all week writing sessions. We weren't writing real stuff from our lives but make believe; we were storytelling. Sometimes we'd do a crossover, where the same event happened in both our books! It was fun. I'd write my characters' pov and she'd do hers. Every few hours we'd swap journals and we'd read one another's and giggle.

That seems like yesterday but also another lifetime ago. Life has gotten so hard. I want to promise in 2010 to simplify things but it would be a lie. I can still remember when it dawned on me that my words had power and I had a way to share my soul and lay it out for the world to see, on paper. I was 13, in front of my teachers desk. She held a paper in her hand and asked, "did you really write this?" I remember saying yes ma'am. It was a poem for a school project. Mrs Toni Andres entered my friend Lynne and I into a contest, THAT SUMMER I received a book in the mail, saw my words on a page and my name printed underneath. Nothing was simple from that day forward. My poems have been published but this is the year that I Make Dreams Come True, I Want A Novel...in PRINT.

A writers life WIP

I just had to write an insanely hard to write chapter. Well, really it was just the ending of the chapter that had me so irrate. I am trying to sooth myself by explaining, yes to myself, that it was a realistic decision my Heroine made.
I always have to ask myself while writing, "Casse, would you ever make that choice and is it realistic?" In this case I had to say HECK NO I would never make that decision but quickly had to tell myself that it was a realistic choice. Though this heroine has a lot of my qualities...we aren't the same. Our fears drive us to do completely different things and because we are so much a like on somethings its harder to get in her head.
Truth is, I would make a horrible romance novel heroine. Even though I have some of the traits (don't laugh at what follows. Well, go ahead its pretty hilarious.) I am a sexy bookish nerd who is shy but head strong but has no idea how truly gorgeous she is. I am smart but insecure but that is where good rom heroine trait ends. I have a smart mouth and I hate being told what to do. I don't take much crap and I am boring as hell. So yeah no novel would ever be written about me.

Fade by Lisa McMann Review

I am always weary about starting the next book of a series I love. What if it is terrible and it ruins it? Rarely does follow ups live up to an awesome series debut.

Janie and Cabel were perfect in Wake by Lisa McMann. But in Fade I felt the spark of what they were but they were not those characters anymore. Janie was strong but didn't make you want to set check her. Now she just does shit just because Cabel doesn't feel comfortable with it. Cabe went all bitch on me. And became not quite alpha not really beta but some lukewarm washy-version them both.

But the story was good. I love McMann's style of storytelling. It fits the story. I love how she doesn't do too many BIG twist and surprises. I like the teacher aspects and I like the way Janie played it up until the actual event. She annoyed the hell out of me then. But still I guess it was a normal and natural way to handle the situation and realistic.

Janie and Cabel's relationship, I just don't get why the drama. It seemed manufactured to give the story another sub-plot but it made absolutely no sense and was pointless except to drive a story and try and force emotion from readers.

I still enjoy the dream catcher series and will look forward to reading Gone. Janie and Cabel are no longer my book ideal couple. Its fine but this is prime example why I am hesitant and scared to read 2nds in the series.

Lisa McMann is still one of my favorite writers.

Troy High by Shana Norris Review

A week or so back I read Troy High. I heard about it on Jeri Smith-Ready's Blogtober fest in October. It was a cute little modernized re-telling of The Trojan war.

Two High schools the Trojans and The Spartans have a gigantic football rivalry. Cassie and Greg are best friends that met at a band camp and connected. Each one goes to the rival school.

Cassie has two brothers who are the Trojan football stars and Greg's brother is the football star on Spartan's team. Elena, who is Greg's brother's, Lucas, girlfriend is forced switch to the rival school due to zoning. And becomes infatuated with Perry...Cassie's annoying brother. She is the "Helena" in the story.

Mythology makes my geek-ness tingle so I dove right in. And though I didn't love this novel it was okay. And though it wasn't lackluster it just was alright to me. It was a solid re-telling but I never really connected with the characters. Cassie needed a backbone, Perry needed to be molly whopped, Greg- dude man up and grow some. Hunter was my favorite. Not because he was likable. But he reminded me of my oldest bro. The fact that he was believable had me getting involved with his character.

I say this was a good book to read and despite the fact that I am not raving about it. And despite it took me weeks to even bother with this review, its not a bad story. I think I just like series because its almost impossible to wrap up a novel to my liking in one book. Same with Give up the Ghost by Megan Crewe.

So I hate to admit but my city's library is pretty lame. Selection-wise. They don't have any of the books that we bloggers are talking about. So once a month I feel it's my duty to send in my new release and sometimes not so new but insanely popular book request. Then for the next I watch the emails roll in. Saying they are getting such and such book I requested. They should really hire me or go to the list of book blogs I suppy them with when they order books for the library. It is so embarassing. Resolutions 2010

It's almost the New Year so I have been thinking a lot about the future and the future of this blog and my career. I will be 27 in February so I desided {see update} to devote a lot more time working on my writing career and this blog. [*updated* I also DECIDED to learn how to spell! jeeze] I want it to grow. So expect to see a lot of me in 2010 and if you like it share it please. Thank you. I have to get back to agent researching so I can submit my manuscript. Wish me luck. Next week I will do a lot more reviews and a calendar of Class of 2k10 releases. And every month next year I am posting the next months releases. So look for January's next week. I have been reading my tail off, that's the only thing procrastination is good for, reading time!

Give up the Ghost by Megan Crewe REVIEW

Give Up the Ghost by Megan Crewe is a solid story of an outcast turned vigilante bent on revenge. It is filled with a bunch of likeable characters and I found the ghosts more interesting than the living characters but then again so did the protag Cass.
Cass was pushed out the popular ranks by her middle school bestie Danielle after a fit of jealousy. And when she starts outing everyone’s secrets the school begins to wonder about her. They can't figure out how she is getting her info. Maybe she is psychic.

When class popular Vice Prez starts spending time with Cass they think she has put a whammy on him. Cass tries to find it in her heart to socialize with what she hilariously calls breathers.

I thought this book had a lot of potential. Not that I didn't enjoy it but it was sort of lukewarm all the way through. It wasn't cold but neither did it heat up. I was hoping it would venture into 'freeing' some ghost and helping them 'go into the light' ghost whisperer style but it mainly focused on her inability to connect with the living. Which isn’t a bad thing it just could have added more layers.

Cass was the kind of teen I was sans the angst but a misfit who has a huge chip on her shoulder and socially awkward. I found it easy to be on her side and cheer her own even when she was being rude-ish because heck I was her again sans the ghost.

I think this was a solid novel and think it would be enjoyed by everyone. Not too heavy and not too light. Goldilocks style it was just right.

Wake by Lisa McMann REVIEW

I will admit, I am very hard on heroines. It takes a lot for me to like one. I liked Janie right away. She wasn't perfect but she was real and believable as a person.

Lisa McMann has a fast passed style of writing that grew on me after my initial distraction. I liked the passing and flow because it was an easy feel and pace for a super light yet entertaining story.

Wake is unique and not the cliché stories that we are use to getting nowadays. I also love how McMann took the time to grow Janie and Cabel's relationship and romance. Its one of the rare YA that you could feel the connection and not have to read that these two are liking each other. In Wake, we are showed the relationship growing into what it is and we see why they would feel that’s way. There are a lot of butterfly moments and I cannot wait the read book 2 Fade.

Wake has a lot of plot and a lot of twist that make you say I didn't see that coming awesome. I loved this book. It was never predictable. Which is a very good thing. I was compelled to read it to the end. And it never got too heavy and cumbersome. It reads quick passed and it leaves you refreshed when finished.

I don't think any YA readers will be disappointed when they read this book.

Ice by Sarah Beth Durst Review

Ok confession time. I don't like the fairy tale beauty and the beast. I get grossed out by the fact that Belle falls for what looks like a Giant St Bernard. So imagine my doubts when I started reading a book with a girl cuddling the coca cola bear! Add to that the words on the bookmark: "a polar bear, true love, and one girl's impossible quest..." The story has also been described as a "deeply romantic story." by Juliet Marillier. But a girl. A bear. True love? I gave an internal what the hell? Then, I opened the book and read the first line: Once upon a time...

I was gone from there. I can't explained what happened with me. What-where did I go wrong? How did Bear get me? I guess I should say what went right. Ice by Sarah Beth Durst did everything right. Bear, that's the polar bear king's name, was oh my heck loveable. And not because he was a giant teddy bear. Very rarely I do I fall in love with a book hero yet when I closed my eyes one night I saw a waltzing polar bear and a girl with her head thrown back in laughter. And holy heck! That girl was none other than me! ME! With a dang polar bear. I knew right then...Ice was my undoing. Ice had me. But Bear is so much more than that more than a polar bear, more than a human. He is just more. He is honest, strong, funny, vulnerable, reasonable, caring, patient and easy. He is all a girl could dream for. Cassie, the books heroine (not me lol) had no choice but to go head over heels gaga for him.

Cassie, was a well written character. I always find it hard to find a heroine I like. I didn't particularly like Cassie but she wasn't too stupid to live so it's a plus. I will say maybe she was too STUBBORN to live. Her stubbornness and unwillingness to understand is what caused the whole conflict that happened in this story to began with. I know it had to happen but the fact she tried to somehow put what she had done on purpose, on Bear and what he had done out of naiveté and misunderstanding, helped demonstrate her immaturity. And you saw her sort of grow up while trying to get love back. So at first I told myself that, Bear loves her so, like a good Bear groupie, I can put up with her if she is what makes him happy. Then I saw her mature majorly at the end of the story. Her display and bond with whom she loved brought a tear to my eye. I was surprised.

But, like I said Cassie is a great heroine. Durst knows how to write great, believable and flawed characters. You can imagine meeting these characters in real life. I love that. The secondary characters, the munaqsri to be specific, whom Cassie gave adorable names too. For example she called the artic fox, Fluffy. I grew to love every single character especially Cassie! Her forgiveness also demonstrated her growth from child to woman.

The amount of love Cassie has for Bear is touching. She is literally willing to go to the ends of the earth for that man. Its heart warming to read a story where its not one sided. The love, you can see it flowing both ways. Its not one of the stories where you have to be constantly told, these two people love each other. But you ask yourself 'uh ok? Why? and where?' If they never said they loved each other once in this book, you'd STILL know that they did and why.

I love this book so much, that I am giving this book away. Well, rephrase. I won a copy of Ice. Mrs Durst signed it and made it out to ME. So I am not giving this (points to mine) away but I am buying a copy and giving that one away. Contest ends on Christmas eve. What do yall think of sex in YA books? How do you feel about it? I mean yes I supposed some teens are having sex (I want to go on record and say, I did not and I do not agree with minors having sex. It's complicated enough for adults and kids are not ready for the complications. Heck I'm still not. Yes I am old fashion and YES I'm good little Catholic girl who doesn't agree with pre-marital lovin that said moving on.) But that said, I am on the fence about sex in YA books. The house of night series by Cast squared (P.C and daughter Kristen) had a sex scene with minor-teacher no less and it kind of pulled me out the story. But should it be included? I remember thinking "oh, is this?- oh they are really?- They are really going to take it there. Woah!" Felt sorta like hebe-porn! I am not sure if as a teen would I have appreciated sexing invading my book. Teens are curious about it, so would it help them explore there sexuality without doing anything or would it make them want to try it? I am not sure. I would love to hear from yall. Its not the new Vampire...Nothing is.

Im so tired of the "werewolves are the new vampire" thing. Because be honest, its not. As awesome as were-things are vampires always have been and will be top of the paranormal 'sexy' list. I mean they are mysterious, usually broody and dark and sensuous and well they will never need you to give them a flea dip or get that wet dog smell. I mean yes they are known most because they suck blood. OkayYes, that is icky but I'd rather date a blood sucker than date my dog. I have nothing against werewolvies! I love animals...just not like that. They aren't sexy. And the shape shifting seems so painful! Big Ouch. Vampires are the same ol Vampires so who needs new ones?

That said Werewolves are werewolves so why would they want to be the new Vampires? Say that to them and I'm sure they'd eat your butt alive. I am reading a wolf book so awesome, its like the first draft but it wil be out next year the author is on twitter follow her @shannon_delany, let me just say I read Twilight when it first came out years ago before it became "twilight" and I get the same tingly awesome oh my gosh this book is good feeling I got when I read this book. First draft or not! I cant wait to get the final project and see how it comes out. Its going to be a huge thing guys! If the world is ready for werewolves. I mean I pride myself on knowing the next huge thing. Not that I am Miss Cleo- at work I say that and the people look at me like I Am Crazy. Too young I Guess. Since I have had time on my hands with no reliable internet connection I have had more time for work. I was doing research for ALL my books. Which all include angel research. Angels are my 'thing'. Its my schtik I guess and I'm not jewish. Well during this research I came across a bound rough draft of a novella I wrote to introduce my Desecration Series that I want to write. Its called Born Through Desecration. Its short think Alpha Omega Novella in On The Prowl by Patricia Briggs that's sorta what I did way back in 2003 when I wrote this. I have a bound copy with handwritten edits and a pdf copy no edits. I am going to post the prologues in the next couple days. If you read it and think its something you are interested in reading. You are welcome to the bound (very) rough draft or the pdf file. Just keep in mind that, though I already started the next one in the series, Daughter of Desecration it may never be finished. Since its a dead project and only write it for me. But if you really like it and it is torturing you not knowing I would consider trying to finish DOD to give to limited people. Thats just an idea I'm working with. Death Knows My Name's Hero appears in Daughter of Desecration. I fell for him and thus had to give him his own story. Actually he hijacked the story from another guy.

Okay, since I am having minor well okay major internet problems. The problem being my u-verse internet connection isn't working I am stuck updating my blog with my cellphone. It's a drag. I can't upload pictures for my reviews, mail call (and I got awesome books too), I can't do about me or Zoey's pick (She picked a good one too!) Ice by Sarah Beth Durst. Sadly I can't even link to her page. But she is fabulous and I know yall will love her! The cover of her book looks so frosty. I love the book too. Hopefully I get this internet problem fixed by the weekend. Oo one more thing- I forgot to tell yall I joined Textnovel.com and I am posting my novel Death Knows My Name there. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare Review

If you follow me on twitter, you probably saw me do a huge gigantic face palm earlier in the week while reading this book.

Clary, the City of Bones' protag was totally annoying me to the point of burning the book! I was so annoyed By Cassandra Clare's book I considered demanding she change her name this instant from Cassandra. I found this book very hard to get into despite all the good things I have been hearing for years. I found Clary Fray an annoying twit, Simon came off ass gay, Jace was arrogant but likeable and Alec was just my type lol. Clary's mom was just as unlikable as Her daughter and I wished they both got sucked into an inescapable portal to hell!

I mean really I was not sure what all the hype was over Immortal Instruments series. Clary was the kind of heroine I hate. Hard-headed, annoying, never listened, with people claiming she was smart but really she borders on too stupid to live and doesn't know how beautiful she really is blah blah. *shakes head* I was going to quit but fellow twitter-ers as, @darkartist (http://aworldofmakebelieve.blogspot.com/) said it got better, I doubted it. But, I am always willing to admit when I am wrong. SO I was wrong She was Right. Boooy did it get better! I read this book everywhere even at work. I do customer service at a grocery store so do you think I was attentive to my customers that day? I’m guessing no.

Jace is what every girl dreams of taming. He is hott and bad ass. He has a deep rooted seed of loyalty, honor and training almost rooted as deeply as his pain. I think I heard a collective YUM. He is tall, blond and sarcastic and here enters Clary, a mundane who can see him and his friends, bro and sis: Alec and Isabel (both equally hot).

Of course they buttheads with Clary. Adventure, jealousy and lurve ensue. Along with a plot twist that will have you going oh UH-UH EWL. Even though I saw the twist come a mile away I am not buying it. I know it is supposed to be the drive to make you keep reading the series but since I am not believing thus not buying what she is selling I am finding it hard to start the next book.

I guess I could read it to see how Ms Clare plans to un-do what she has done. I say read this book only if you are into twisty plots that keep on going.

Hi again, it's me Casse. A little bit more about me. I am often described as the weirdest chick you'll ever know. I like it. *grins* I am catholic. In fact I am the only Catholic in my family and I have been since I was 14. So for 12 years.
I am an introverted person, reading and writing allow me to express myself the way I NEVER will be able to in "real life." I am extremely shy. Actually technically its "Social Anxiety Disorder." But why be technical? I hate talking on the phone but I LOVE texting and you will NEVER see me without my cellphone in hand, much to my bosses' chagrin. Twitter is like texting the world so I love it!
I graduated high school a year early because I was a huge nerd.
For a long time I was afraid to wear glasses because my oldest brother told me, okay don't laugh...,that if I fell they would break and stab me in the eye! So you can imagine I would rather walk around blurry than get glasses! Aren't older siblings awesome? Lucky me, I have three. My dad finally made me get glasses when I was 17 years old, after My mom and he, forced me to get my driver's permit and I wasn't able to because...I couldn't pass the eye test! I was kind of relieved. (I didn't want to learn to drive.) I fail the eye test horrible. I convinced them it was broke because all I saw was boxes of light and no writing at all because it was so blurry, they believed me until they made my dad look and see (he has better than 20/20 vision *rolls eyes*) He took one look in the headset, and dragged me down to the America's Best eye doctor THAT DAY! But trust me I got shatter proof lenses!
Also I am very short 4'11 and I never felt self-conscious about height, which surprises people. Most the time I forget how short I am until my neck starts hurting from looking up all the time. lol.
I love being outside in the rain, but hate sunny days because I oddly get sad when I see the sun. I love animals but hate bugs. I am not afraid of lizards, amphibians or reptiles...I guess lizards ARE reptiles huh? But I have a lot of phobias-including heights (good thing I am so short lol) the dark and small spaces. And I have a real fear of going blind because I am nosey and hate the thought of being unable to see, which explains my fear of the dark.

Rediscovering Catholicism by Matthew Kelly

It's no secret that I am a Catholic. I mean I go by the name Catholic Kittie. Well last year I went through a big stuggle that really had me struggling with my faith. I was really trying to find myself and going to give up on having faith completely, when this book really helped. Rediscovering Catholicism by Matthew Kelly I went to Catholics Come Home and requested the book absolutely FREE!

I must admit I was WANTING to be convinced to have faith. It worked. I know that everyone who reads my blog is not a catholic book reader but my best friends aren't either and I shared this book with them via my personal blog, and they found some of it very inspirational. So I am going to post a blurb/excerpt from the book and hope you like it enough to check it out.

Imagine this...

You're driving home from work next Monday after a long day. You tune in your radio. You hear a blurb about a little village in India where some villagers have died suddenly, strangely, of a flu that has never been seen before. It's not influenza, but three or four people are dead, and it's kind of interesting, and they are sending some doctors over there to investigate it. You don't think much about it, but coming home from church on Sunday you hear another radio spot. Only they say it's, not three villagers, it's 30,000 villagers in the back hills of this particular area of India, and it's on TV that night. CNN runs a little blurb: people are heading there from the disease center in Atlanta because this disease strain has never been seen before.

By Monday morning when you get up, it's the lead story. It's not just India; it's Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, and before you know it, you're hearing this story everywhere, and they have now coined it as "the mystery flu." The President has made some comment that he and his family are praying and hoping that all will go well over there. But everyone is wondering, "How are we going to contain it?"

That's when the President of France makes an announcement that shocks Europe. He is closing their borders. No flights from India, Pakistan, or any of the countries where this thing has been seen. And that's why that night you are watching a little bit of CNN before going to bed. Your jaw hits your chest when a weeping woman is translated in English from a French news program. There's a man lying in a hospital in Paris, dying of the mystery flu. It has come to Europe.

Panic strikes. As best they can tell, after contracting the disease, you have it for a week before you even know it. Then you have four days of unbelievable symptoms. And then you die. Britain closes its borders, but it's too late. South Hampton, Liverpool, North Hampton, and it's Tuesday morning when the President of the United States makes the following announcement: "Due to a national-security risk, all flights to and from Europe and Asia have been canceled. If your loved ones are overseas, I'm sorry. They cannot come back until we find a cure for this thing."

Within four days, our nation has been plunged into an unbelievable fear. People are wondering, "What if it comes to this country?" And preachers on Tuesday are saying it's the scourge of God. It's Wednesday night, and you are at a church prayer meeting when somebody runs in from the parking lot and yells, "Turn on a radio, turn on a radio!" And while everyone in church listens to a little transistor radio with a microphone stuck up to it, the announcement is made. Two women are lying, in a Long Island hospital, dying from the mystery flu. Within hours it seems, the disease envelopes the country.

People are working around the clock, trying to find an antidote. Nothing is working. California, Oregon, Arizona, Florida, Massachusetts. It's as though it's just sweeping in from the borders.

And then all of a sudden the news comes out. The code has been broken. A cure can be found. A vaccine can be made. It's going to take the blood of somebody who hasn't been infected, and so, sure enough, all through the Midwest, through all those channels of emergency broadcasting, everyone is asked to do one simple thing: Go to your downtown hospital and have your blood analyzed. That's all we ask of you. When you hear the sirens go off' in your neighborhood, please make your way quickly, quietly, and safely to the hospitals.

Sure enough, when you and your family get down there late on that Friday night, there is a long line, and they've got nurses and doctors coming out and pricking fingers and taking blood and putting labels on it. Your spouse and your kids are out there, and they take your blood and say, "Wait here in the parking lot, and if we call your name, you can be dismissed and go home." You stand around, scared, with your neighbors, wondering what on earth is going on, and if this is the end of the world.

Suddenly, a young man comes running out of the hospital screaming. He's yelling a name and waving a clipboard. What? He yells it again! And your son tugs on your jacket and says, "Daddy, that's me." Before you know it, they have grabbed your boy. "Wait a minute. Hold on!" And they say, "It's okay, his blood is clean. His blood is pure. We want to make sure he doesn't have the disease. We think he has the right blood type."

Five tense minutes later, out come the doctors and nurses crying and hugging one another-some are even laughing. It's the first time you have seen anybody laugh in a week, and an old doctor walks up to you and says, "Thank you, sir. Your son's blood is perfect. It's clean, it is pure, and we can make the vaccine."

As the word begins to spread all across that parking lot full of folks, people are screaming and praying and laughing and crying. But then the gray-haired doctor pulls you and your wife aside and says, "May we see you for a moment? We didn't realize that the donor would be a minor and we...we need you to sign a consent form."

You begin to sign, and then you see that the box for the number of pints of blood to be taken is empty. "H-h-h-how many pints?" And that is when the old doctor's smile fades, and he says, "We had no idea it would be a little child. We weren't prepared. We need it all! .... But...but...I don't understand. He's my only son! .... We are talking about the whole world here. Please sign. We...we...need to hurry!"

"But can't you give him a transfusion? If we had clean blood we would. Please, will you please sign?" In numb silence you do. Then they say, "Would you like to have a moment with him before we begin?"

Could you walk back? Could you walk back to that room where he sits on a table saying, "Daddy? Mommy? What's going on?" Could you take his hands and say, "Son, your mommy and I love you, and we would never, ever let anything happen to you that didn't just have to be! Do you understand that?" And when that old doctor comes back in and says, "I'm sorry, we've got to get started. People all over the world are dying," could you leave? Could you walk out while he is saying, "Dad? Mom? Dad? Why...why have you abandoned me?"

And then next week, when they have the ceremony to honor your son, and some folks sleep through it, and some folks don't even bother to come because they have better things to do, and some folks come with a pretentious smile and just pretend to care, would you want to jump up and say, "EXCUSE ME! MY SON DIED FOR YOU! DON'T YOU EVEN CARE? DOES IT MEAN NOTHING TO YOU?"

I wonder, is that what God wants to say? "MY SON DIED FOR YOU! DOES IT MEAN NOTHING? DON'T YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I CARE?"

Chapter 3

It also should come as no surprise to us that, in this modern environment, the relevance of Jesus is being seriously questioned. The reason is simple. The philosophy of Christ is very different from the prevailing philosophies of our modern culture. In fact, they are completely opposed to each other. And yet, the teachings of Christ and these modern philosophies both claim to be the key to the fulfillment of a yearning that is common to us all.

Our Quest for Happiness

The human heart is on a quest for happiness. Every human heart yearns for happiness like the desert yearns for rain. You have a desire for happiness, I have a desire for happiness. This desire is universal, common to every member of the human family. We simply desire to be happy, and we act from this desire.

We often do things that we think will make us happy, but which in fact end up making us miserable. Under the influence of philosophies such as Individualism, Hedonism, and Minimalism, we often seek the happiness we desire through pleasure, possessions, power, and the path of least resistance. Each of these may offer moments of happiness, but they end too soon, having lasted ever so briefly, and our quest for a lasting happiness continues. These moments of happiness are of course real, but only as real as a shadow. The shadow of a person is real, but it is nothing compared to the actual person. So many of us spend a large portion of our lives chasing shadows.

The modern search for happiness is governed by Individualism, Hedonism, Minimalism and their fruits: greed, lust, laziness, gluttony, selfishness, exploitation, and deception. And yet, as these philosophies become more and more the focus of modern lifestyles, people seem to be filled with a greater discontent and unhappiness with each passing day.

Is it possible that these philosophies cannot deliver what they promise? Is it possible that there is something lacking in these philosophies that makes it impossible for the human person to find happiness through them?

God and Happiness

I believe God wants us to be happy. I believe God gave us the yearning for happiness that constantly preoccupies our human hearts. It is as if God placed this yearning within each human heart as a spiritual navigational instrument designed to reunite us with our destiny. As a Father who takes a sincere and active interest in the lives of his children, God sent his only Son to respond to humanity's yearning for happiness, and to offer direction in satisfying that yearning. After all, God himself is the author of our yearning for happiness.

The philosophy of Christ is the ultimate philosophy of human happiness. At the same time, the philosophy of Christ is one of self-donation. This is the great paradox of God's teaching. In our misguided adventures, we may catch glimpses of happiness living outside of the philosophy of Christ. You may even taste happiness for a moment living a life contrary to the philosophy of Christ, but these are stolen moments. They may seem real, but they are just shadows of something infinitely greater.

The Attitude of Christ

Jesus never asked, "What's in it for me?" He was not motivated by the Individualist creed; he was motivated by a spirit of service. Far from advocating a Hedonistic deification of pleasure, Jesus gently proclaimed a life of self-denial, saying, "Whoever wishes to follow me, let him deny himself and take up his cross" (Matthew 16:24). He certainly didn't ask himself, "What is the least I can do and still bring salvation to humanity?" No, he asked, "What is the most I can do?" For this is the question of the lover. The attitude of Christ forms a stark contrast to the philosophies of Individualism, Hedonism, and Minimalism.

The life that Jesus invites us to live is very different than the lifestyle our modern culture invites us to live. Individualism, Hedonism, Minimalism - and their various sundry ally philosophies such as Relativism and Materialism - encourage us to do whatever we want, wherever we want, whenever we want. On the other hand, Jesus invites us to a life of discipline.

Having appeared to Mary Magdalene after his Resurrection, Jesus summoned the disciples to Galilee. When the eleven were gathered together on the mountain, Jesus said, "Go therefore and make disciples of every nation" (Matthew 28:19). Jesus did not say, "Go and make followers of every nation."

It is easy to be a follower, but to be a disciple requires discipline. Christ invites us to a life of discipline not for his sake, but for our sake; not to help him, but to help us; not to make him happy, but to allow us to share in his happiness.

The Role of Discipline

Jesus said, "I have come that you may have life and have it to the fullest" (John 10:10). The path that leads to "fullness of life" is discipline. There are four major aspects of the human person - physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual. When we eat well, exercise often, and sleep regularly, we feel more fully alive physically. When we love, when we give priority to the significant relationships of our lives, when we give of ourselves to help others in their journey, we feel more fully alive emotionally. When we study, we feel more fully alive intellectually. When we come before God in prayer, openly and honestly, we experience life more fully spiritually. All of these life-giving endeavors require discipline. When are we most fully alive? When we embrace a life of discipline. The human person thrives on discipline.

Are you thriving? Or are you just surviving?

Discipline awakens us from our philosophical stupor and refines every aspect of the human person. Discipline doesn't enslave or stifle the human person; rather, it sets us free to soar to unimagined heights. Discipline sharpens the human senses, allowing us to savor the subtler tastes of life's experiences. Whether those experiences are physical, emotional, intellectual, or spiritual, discipline elevates them to their ultimate reality. Discipline heightens every human experience and increases every human ability. The life and teachings of Jesus Christ invite us to embrace this life-giving discipline.

Many people consider Jesus irrelevant today because he proposes a life of discipline. Is discipline then to be considered the core of Jesus' philosophy? No. Christ proposes a life of discipline not for its own sake, and certainly not to stifle or control us; rather, he proposes discipline as the key to freedom.

In the midst of the complexities of this modern era, we find ourselves enslaved and imprisoned by a thousand different whims, cravings, addictions, and attachments. We have subscribed to the adolescent notion that freedom is the ability to do whatever you want, wherever you want, whenever you want, without interference from any authority. Could the insanity of our modern philosophy be any more apparent? Freedom is not the ability to do whatever you want. Freedom is the strength of character to do what is good, true, noble, and right. Freedom without discipline is impossible.

Is freedom then to be considered the core of Jesus' philosophy? No. What then, is the core of his philosophy? Well, as it turns out, the people of his own time were curious for an answer to this very question.

One day, while Jesus was teaching a large group of people in the synagogue, a man asked Our Lord a question from his position in the multitude. He was a learned man, one of those doctors of the law who were no longer able to understand the teaching revealed to Moses because it had become so twisted and entangled in the ways of men. He questioned Our Lord, saying, "Teacher, which is the greatest of the Commandments?"

Jesus opened his divine lips slowly, with the calm assurance of somebody who knows what he is talking about and replied, "You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, your whole mind, and your whole soul. This is the first and the greatest of the Commandments. And the second is like it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. Upon these two rest the whole law and all the prophets" (Matthew 22:34-40). (Continued on page 5)

Love is the core of Jesus' philosophy. But, in order to love you must be free. For to love is to give your self freely and without reservation.

Yet, to give your self - to another person, to an endeavor, or to God - you must first possess your self. This possession of self is freedom. It is a prerequisite for love, and is attained only through discipline.

Before Christmas last year, I saw a Jewish scholar interviewed on television. The topic of discussion was the influence Jesus has exerted on human history. In summary, the scholar concluded, "The impact this man has had on human history is undeniable. Because of this man we call Jesus, the world will never again be the same. Because of Jesus, men and women will never think the same. Regardless of whether or not we believe he was the Son of God, because of this man who walked the earth two thousand years ago, men and women will never live the same, will never be the same."

Sometimes, in this turbulent cultural environment, which can be particularly anti-Christian, we can lose sight of the impact Christ has had on history. Caught up in the day-to-day challenges of our busy lives, it is sometimes easy to forget the unfathomable influence this one man has had.

There are a great many people today who think that Jesus is irrelevant in the modern context. I suspect these people are suffering from a modern madness caused by an ignorance of self and history. As we get to know ourselves, our deepest needs, and the history of humanity, the relevance of Jesus Christ to modern man becomes startlingly clear.

Is Jesus still relevant?

Gather all the books that have been written about the life and teachings of Jesus. Add to them all the artwork Christian life has inspired. Now consider all the music inspired by Christ. Not to be forgotten is the fact that the Church nurtured and nourished the development of the arts for centuries. Christianity was the moral foundation upon which America and many other nations built themselves. Now con-sider the fact that prior to Christ walking the earth, there was never any such thing as a hospital. Where were the sick when Jesus walked the earth? They were on the side of the road, left there to rot and die by relatives who feared for their own health. How is it that we have also collectively forgotten that until the Church introduced education for the masses, there was never any such thing as an education for the common man? Education was only for the elite until the Church recognized and proclaimed the dignity of every human person and introduced education for the masses.

All of these represent aspects of the measurable impact Christ has had on human history. And yet, these are all just dim reflections of the person who was and is Jesus Christ. Adding all of these together is still nothing compared to the impact Christ can have on your life, on my life. All the worldly success of Christ and the Church are insignificant compared to the change Christ can effect in your heart, in my heart.

The life of Jesus Christ is indelibly engraved upon history, neither the erosion of time nor the devastating and compounding effects of evil have been able to erase his influence. Some people thought he was crazy, others considered him a misfit, a troublemaker, a rebel. He was condemned as a criminal, and yet, his life and teachings echo and reverberate throughout history. He saw things differently, and he had no respect for the status quo. You can praise him, disagree with him, quote him, disbelieve him, glorify him, or vilify him. About the only thing you cannot do is ignore him, and that is a lesson that every age learns in its own way.

You can't ignore Jesus because he changed things. He is the single greatest agent of change in human history. He made the lame walk, taught the simple, set captives free, gave sight to the blind, fed the (Continued on page 6) hungry, healed the sick, comforted the afflicted, afflicted the comfortable, and in all of these, captured the imaginations of every generation. His teachings are not complex or exclusive, but simple and applicable to everyone, everywhere, in every time in history, regardless of age, color, or state in life. Beyond life's complexities, there is simplicity. Beneath life's confusion, there is understanding. It is the Gospel, the Good News. Within it, through it, we find salvation. And I believe that part of that salvation is happiness - not the foolish, empty happiness that this modern age associates with getting what you want. It is a happiness deeper and higher than any happiness we could imagine or design for ourselves.

Christ came to reconcile us with the Father, and in doing so, offered the satisfaction of this craving for happiness that preoccupies our human hearts. Love is our origin and our destiny. Our yearning for happiness is a yearning for love. Created to love and be loved, we seek out the fulfillment of our purpose. "God is love" (1 John 4:8), and our yearning for happiness is ultimately a yearning for God. The Catechism of the Catholic Church wastes no time in addressing this truth. The opening point of Chapter One, Section One, reads, "The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God and for God; and God never ceases to draw man to himself. Only in God will man find the truth and happiness he never stops yearning for."

Our desire for happiness is not going to go away. It is part of the human condition. Our quest for happiness is a quest for God. This is the genius of God. Our yearning for happiness is the ultimate and eternal homing device, designed to draw us gently toward our eternal home. Our yearning for happiness is a yearning for union with our Creator. As Augustine pointed out so simply and eloquently, "Our hearts are restless until they rest in you, Lord." Wherever men and women yearn for happiness, Christ will be relevant. He alone is the fulfillment and satisfaction of this yearning, and so for every person in every place and time he remains, "the Way, the Truth, and the Life" (John 14:6).

The Postmistress by Sarah Blake (Review)

Ok this is hard to say because my personal policy of not giving reviews of books I didn't like. I always say I just won't review it if it is bad or don't like it. And I find it hard to like anything other than Paranormal Romance or Urban Fantasy. But I promised I would read and review. That said,

I didn't like the Postmistress by the awesome Sarah Blake right away and if not for my book club giving me the ARC with the promise I would read it, I wouldn't have finished. Blake is so talented that it oozes from every page so it was easy to fight through the stuggling to get past the boredom. The book is beautifully written. And though a lot of people had a problem with the jumpy, choppy flow of the book as well as found it confusing. Even though it took me about 5 chapters to get into the book I understood what she was doing. She was demonstrating the feel of wartime the only way she possibly could in a book, that would do it more justice than just saying it blandly. War is unpredictable, its not straight forward and it has a way of effecting different people, different ways for one event a thousand different rays go in a billion directions. That gets choppy a little less than chaotic. The holocaust is a big dirty inhumane stain on humanity's history and how we ignored it for so long is a even bigger atrocity to our history. This book is a snap shot of how it effected different people, of different types. It was candid and honest as well as true to life.

I just like my books wrapped up in a happy little bow and neatly handed to me at the end. Not the case with this book. No happy all is well bow. No neatly and no bow at all. This was complex. Realistically so. I started reading this book feeling like I was on the cuspate of a book so great the world was going to fall in love with it. I still believe it to be so.

The Postmistress by Sarah Blake is so real it almost doesn't feel like fiction. It plays out like a movie in my head. Or a story being told to me by a grandmother. People who like this type of stuff will eat this book up. They will laugh. They will cry. They will find themselves stuck with this book inside of them for times to come. It makes you feel, it makes you hurt. These people are closer to you than most anyone else it seems and their pain, joys and relationships are real. And your emotions will be raw when finished. So no, I did not like this book. I lived it. I recommend you live it with me.

Iron Kissed- Patricia Briggs Review

Iron kissed - Patricia Briggs

After completely devouring the first two in the series, I was worried. Could P. Briggs, (my all new nickname Briggs.) But could she keep her streak of awesome-ness up?

The answer, Hell yeah! She did not disappoint!

This adventure leads Mercy, deep into the fae‘s, out in the open/or is it? world. When her former boss and mentor Zee, a goblin- which we learn is a made up term, is accused of a crime; Mercy takes it on herself to prove his innocence...even if it kills her. And it just might or even worse. The Fae aren’t some cute tinkerbells who live with Peter Pan in Neverland. They are scary, powerful, ruthless and straight up BAD-ASS. But we should always remember, humans can be just as bad. Iron Kiss shows that element too.

I am trying not to spoil anything because it unfolds, so perfectly. The characters continue to develop nicely and roundly. In this installment some of the minor players become major and some majors become HUGE.

I love the boys, Adam and Sam. And Mercy is forced to make a choice between the two, once and for all because her indecision was endangering the pack. I didn't 100% like that spin, but it worked, as well as pushed the storyline forward. I liked how it resolved itself and the guy she choice was good too. I have to admit I was pulling for them both so I would be happy and sad for whoever she picked. But the way it was done I was more happy than sad. But still someone needs a spin-off series to heal his heart in my opinion.

Adam’s pack, mainly Ben won my heart. He comes through for Mercy and helps her in his weird, rude way. But we come to understand him better. And frankly I love him now.

This book is also more heartbreaking and devastating as a woman. As I was forced to sit and watch, Mercy experience something meant to destroy. Not many books in this genre can touch me the way Iron Kissed did. I admit, I cried. Sounds silly now, but wait until you read it. Mercy is always so bad ass most of the time it is interesting to see her most vulnerable side.

It was wonderfully done. It wasn't done just to be dramatic and be forced drama and tension like a lot of writers mistakenly do. This book pushed Briggs above all those who are in her genre.

I was tingling to get my hands on Bone Crossed, even enough to shell out a hardcover price.

And I agree with Mercy, To Wong Foo WAS a great movie.

Okay, I am back for a little more sharing. So we know I go by Casse, I am 26 and I love reading and writing creepy books that involve lurve. So on to what we don't know yet...
I am the youngest of 4 kids. I have two older brothers and one older sister. I am an Air Force Brat and have lived all over the place including Japan and Alaska. I love Edmonton Alberta Canada!

I am a bit of a sexist when it comes to reading, I don't know how this happened but I have a hard time reading male Authors, which is probably why I gravitate to romance novels. It is a mostly female dominated genre. It's weird. I don't know how this happened truly.

More random facts...I cannot drive. I mean it. I never learned how, or wanted to learn. I still don't. I am allergic to most fruit but I love it and will suffer for this love of it.
I have an irrational fear that the world is going to run out of good books, so every store I go into I must head to the book section, find a book I think sounds great (which is sometimes harder than one would think.) And buy it, like I am stock piling. If I can't find one, I get terrified.

I had more interesting things to say, but the little monter, who I call my niece won't allow me to take my attention away from her for more than 6 seconds, I counted lol. So this is what you get. See you next Thursday. I promise more interesting things.

My Name is Casse atleast that's what I go by. I am a 26 year old writer. I love books. I am an Aunt to 2 nieces and 4 nephews (2 of them are named Derrick after my oldest brother Derrick) It's odd I know! They call me Aunnie.
I am the human of a cat named Marques. He calls me "Meeeow". Which means slave in kittenese.
I am single with no kids. Yes I am aware I sound like I will end up, the cat lady who all my nieces and nephews will hate to come visit because she has books and spiral notebooks filled with stories laying around with a house that is full of fur balls and smells of cat pee...but that doesn't sound so bad of fate to me, sans the pee smell. Oh also I have an odd sense of humor.

I truly cannot say enough about this. I read a sneak peak over at Jeri Smith-Ready's Blogtoberfest Day 2
I have never been so thankful for insomnia in my life. I have been in sort of a book rut and bad mood reading. (ie. previous review of Impetuous by Lori Foster) But this perked me right up, well this and my writer's block going away. But anyway, go to Shannon's page, and Jeri's blogtoberfest and read all the cool YA books. There are giveaways and all of that. Impetuous By Lori Foster Review

I am only a chapter into these book and this chick has only one word to describe her, A NINNY! One why is she lying? This bothers me. One guess how this is going to turn out. Is he going to be pissed that his luuurve is a liar? Why didn't she just say, yes I know who you are. And speaking of that, the Clark Kent-slash-superman has been, is and always will be dumb. I don't care what cheap wig and colored contacts anyone puts on I will recognize you. That’s just the fact. If you are hott in hoe clothes disguise, you are hott in regular clothes! Come on its lame to write a romance and say otherwise! Do you love her for her hott ass or for her?
Which brings me to Two. Is this chick Carlie, nice spelling of the name btw I like it., blind? In what world is the given description of her NOT damn hott? I don't care what man dogged her! Tell that jerk "forget you honey, I AM dang hott!" And leave it as his loss. To have her floundering confusedly around like "oh my my. Why oh why is he starin at meh? lil oh meh?" Uh could it be your shapely Amazon’s body maybe? With those legs that won't quit? hmmm maybe that’s it? To have her act clueless is just far fetched and hard to believe.
Which leads to Three. Uh who has sex with someone who you don't know their name, who they are and is wearing a mask? Then claim it to be more than a nookie- one nighter? And no point in the sexin did he not think to take the mask off her? Can you imagine, Her: say my name. Him: err what is it? or vis-a-vers-a. Lets be realistic who wanders away from the party in the rain, gets stalked to the guest house by a strange man who for all you know is clearly a stalker and then gives it up?
That’s just my first chapter first impression. I will reconvene after I am done.

Chapter 2 what the hell is she a skittish colt err mere or a grown damn woman? If its the later she needs to act like one.

Chapter 3 I would say you would THINK he'd recognize her voice being so taken with her and all. But then again they didn’t do much talking last night besides. "Me Tarzan me want pretty wo-MON. Pretty wo-MON stay with me?" Her reply "Me docile dummy, me want mon too, docile dummy scare of men. Me was married but me no want mon now. But me wont Tarzan" they basically said this but in less word. I think it was 6 for him and 4 then 2 then 3. my take is she must be so scared she. must. Talk. In. Clipped. Sentences...Just like this.
Still I carry on.

Chapter 4 Well ho-ly Cow. By the end of chapter 3 I am starting to like and get into the book. Its a typical romance. I want to scream at these people. Get out your damn head and say what you mean! But they won't. They never do. It won’t clear up until the end when they epiphanize. It will all make ‘Tah-Dah’ sense to them and they will profess their love. I will sit back and enjoy this predictable plotline ride as best I can.

Ok I need to back this review up and say I started this book in a bad mood. I am being honest here. But I do not take back anything, I was being honest. That said I will finish the rest of the review.

Once the mood past I enjoyed this book even though it involved the plot I hate the most...Stupid pointless secret. I seriously didn’t see the point of this secret and once it got to a certain point anyone would say “hey man here is the deal and here is why.” But of course it snow balled out of control and she kept doing crazy things and blatant lies to cover. It got to the point were I could understand where he was coming from when it blew up.
Still he blew up to the extreme and I was like uh he has issues nobody would do this, angry or not. Period.
I also felt after the ‘big mis’ the story went on a little too long and I was like "when will it end." I had to endure the both of them experience the ‘flip-flop‘. And the things he did to re-woo her, I found it hard to believe and the way he then just flipped, ah-gain. Then it was her turn to flop. Oy Vey!

Not that this book was totally a lose. The middle of the story was very good and entertaining, so much so, that I finished it in one late night reading. I couldn't put it down. So I have to say any big mis fan would loooove it. The Characters are great. They were endearing and made complete since together.
All in all I consider this a good book and a good review if not an honest one.

Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs

Who knew blood could be so sexy?

The one thing I can say about Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson's books are the covers are gorgeous. And very HOTT regardless if the tatts are not consistent.

Mercy and her gang of fantasy creatures are back. Fresh from their adventures of stopping a mad-wolf from distributing a drug that can effect werewolves, Mercy has found herself in a new danger. She owes her vampire friend, Stefan a favor. So she accompanies him to give a rogue vampire a message. But what they find is not what they expected. It's 10 times more terrifying. Seriously just thinking about it gives me the creeps.

Stefan, who I find oddly, damn sexy, is a powerful vampire one of the most powerful in his Seethe. A seethe are to Vamps as what wolf packs are to well duh, werewolves. He isn't the typical brooding vamp. Stefan is humorous, he has a scooby doo obsession (which is totally adorable) and likes to laugh as well as, smells like popcorn. Yum!
Samuel, her first love has moved himself in as her roommate and it pisses her almost-but not really boyfriend, Adam off. As a rule, I hate love triangles. They are messy and you get the readers pulling for one side and the other guy eventually gets the girl and well, whatever the decision that the heroine via the writer makes, its gonna piss someone off, and usually it me. But Briggs does messy so good. Adam or Sam or...Stefan? Hmmm it is so delicious and don't even think its gonna get resolved easily or in this book for that matter. B, (What I have taken to callin Briggs; because we are that close. Chea right!) has Mercy drag this baby ouuuut. Romance is always a good sub-plot.

The pack plays a bigger roll in this book or well their existing role from last book is just expanded on. Warren, Mercy's best friend becomes even more lovable. I mean even coyote girls loves their gays right?

This installment of the series is darker and creepier than the first. But that is because there is more vampires and vamps looove blood and blood equals cree-py! Mercy has to venture into The Seethe that Stefan belongs too. And of course runs into trouble as well. She also gets Stefan into major doo doo for a secret he is keeping for Mercy. A secret Mercy has no idea he was keeping until she ventures into see the Seethe's Mistress. A sociopath crazy bi-otch who is hot for Samuel's bod and blood.

There are a few stand-out parts in this book. Warren and his boy toy comes to mind. As well as a creepy, confusing but hott blood/finger sucking exchange between Stefan and Mercy. Have a cold glass of water handy. Its a sqweee-yuck/oh-my-gawd that is so dang hot moment.

This book also brilliantly displays the differences between wolf and vamps. Where the wolves are more noble and loyal in their pack bonds and politics and the men are virile exudeing masculinity from their pores (even Warren), the vampires are just the opposite. They are sneaky, vicious and down right backstabbers and they (male and female) have this slinky, suave sexuality to them.
The entire book turns into a game of cat and mouse that never gets old or boring. Where neither sides, wolves and vamps, are strictly one or the other. They have a common enemy though but what the sides plan on doing with this enemy is not in agreement.

Warren is hurt and some of the pack is missing. Will Mercy be able to find her guys alive and in time? Well duh of course she will. She is one bad ass chick! But along the way she will discover some of what a walker can really do, forge new ties, rack up new debts that she will have to payback and make one Biiiitch of an enemy.

I received my first look ARC from Barnes and Noble on Friday and my apartment office held it hostage until Wednesday. It has a really beautiful cover, which as from a previous post we all know matters majorly to me. I am excited to read this book and discuss it with fellow readers at First Look.

It is available for pre-order here Postmistress It is being released February 9th 2010. Just in time for an all night read on V-day.

Normally, I hate used books. I prefer buying books. It helps the authors and the economy but, sometimes well- I just can't afford it. All the new books I need, well not need. Yes heck, I need them! So instead of looking at the books already read sitting in piles on my floor and ect. I go to Swaptree.
Swaptree is a trading site where you can get rid of old Books, CDs, DVDs, and even games. Its free and is easy to set up an account. All you pay is shipping (unless you do the friend referral thing and earn free shipping). I have some good books coming. Here are some of this weeks trades.

Moon Called by Patricia Briggs

I first came across this book while looking for a new series to read. One that would keep me entertained. And boy did I get the corrected book. Though normally I am always hesitant about starting werewolf and animal shape shifter books I decided to give it a try.

Mercedes Thompson is my favorite Heroine of all times. She is just the right amount of ballsy and even though sometimes she makes stupid mistakes they are some what believable.

Mercy is a shape-shifter what they call a Walker in a world were witches, fae, vampires are known creatures. She can turn into a coyote. Her neighbor is the alpha of the local werewolves pack and has claimed her as a mate among the pack for her protection. So that the wolf guys will not harm her. They aren't foolish enough to upset their alpha, the drop dead sexy Adam Hauptman. Adam and Mercy have this love-annoy relationship. He threatens to eat her cat, while she annoys him to no end by keeping an old and dilapidated VW Rabbit in her back yard in his house's view.

Mercy meets a young wolf at her car shop and the adventures starts from there. Someone is attacking humans and turning them into werewolves. Mercy wants to find out who, exactly is doing this.

I loved the way Mercy's long-term relationship with werewolves unfold. I was so enthralled with this book from pretty much the first sentence. "I didn't realize he was a werewolf at first." Maybe it was just me but I could not put this book down.

Mercy and Adam have a complex relationship more than neighbors, but no where near the mates that Adam claimed her as. Adam has a hilarious, punk rockish but lovable daughter, Jesse, that Mercy just adores, as do I as well. And when ex-lover Samuel, son of Bran, enters the picture after Mercy has to make an unexpected and un-wanted return home to Montana, you will think Adam and Mercy's complex relationship is a walk in the park.

Moon Called is a great book. I give kudos to Briggs for the world she created while not getting caught up in petty descriptions and background filler information. Briggs finds an entertaining way to tell us all we need to know as we need to know it.

The characters are very well written and believable. And boy there are a lot of characters to know. Luckily they are easy to remember. The tri-city, where Mercy resides, wolf pack are characters who's importance that ranger from major to minor but you will remember every single one. And Bran's Montana pack (Bran is the Alpha of the entire North American wolves) will introduce themselves as they show what relevance they have to Mercy's past.

All in all I have nothing but great things to say about the opening book for the series and you won't regret reading this book. I love the huge Native American culture that is infused in this book and the magical beings that this world has, both openly and hidden in among the public.

I think every book lover should read this book.

Why do people always say not to judge a book by it's cover? Then what exactly is the cover for. It's no secret most people are visual. The cover is the first thing we see. It determines rather we are going to pick up the book or pick up the one next to it and flip it over and read the synopsis, am I right? A good book cover will make you stop in your tracks JUST to look at it. It will make you ask yourself, "hmm I wonder what that's about?"
Telling people to not judge a book by it's cover is like saying looks don't matter. puh-leaze. They may not be the only thing but like look a book is the FIRST thing. If the packaging is lame what else will make you pick it up?
